I own and love both games, But I honestly think Gears of war has the edge when it comes to online play. And The fact that the map packs are so expensive on MW2. I mean I get like 4 maps for 1500 or something microsoft points while I can get 19 maps and a bonus level for GOW2 for only 800 points! I have bought both map packs. I know people say COD: MW2 is strategy also cause you need to learn the maps, but come on, most the time in real war you have no idea how the place you are fighting is going to look!

The good: Decent ammount of gamemodes. Many weapons, Strategic, Many players, good campaign, campaign has many unexpected twists.
The bad: Many little kids, Noobtoobing, Expensive addons.
--GOw2--
The good: Many gamemodes. Violent, Stragetic yet simple, Many players, decent campaign, cheap addons.
The bad: Over chainsawing, unexpected frustrating deaths by the Hammer of dawn and Mortar.
What do you guys think? which one is better?? I think a rating would be 8.6 for MW2 and 9.5 for GOW2
You can't really compare them.
Edit: But in my opinion Gears of War 2 is better.
You do have a point, one is a 3rd person shooter and one is a 1st person shooter. there both hit games though so I think you can still compare them.

Also, both games are definitely overrated. On top of that they both play completely differently. If I had to choose one over the other it would be Modern Warfare 2, because GoW2 feels more small scaled overall when it comes to Multiplayer.

Gears's SP is really the only thing that saves it, The story is interesting, Characters likable ([B]EVERYBUDDY WANTS TO SEE THE TRAIN BABY[/B]) and the visuals stunning. unfortunately the MP just degenerates into a duck-and-roll Shotgun match every fucking time and no matter how you look at it. it's not fun.
MW2's SP is a tad short and while the story is a bit retarded (LOL I LOST 30,000 MEN, [B]EVERYONE[/B] MUST DIE BUT YOU UNDERSTAND RITE?.) it's still an enjoyable experience. it's MP is the same rinse and repeat gameplay weave had in the FPS genre since...Call of Duty 4. kill people, gain experience, unlock new guns to kill more people to gain more experience- yadayadayada. It's still a fun but it gets old.
So there are no winners,
Gear's MP isn't fun and MW2's map packs are hilariously overpriced.
There are enough gamemodes on GOW2 to satisfy everyone. MW2's plot sucked ass, wasn't nearly as fun like GOW2, plus GOW had split-screen/online/system link co-op campaign, unlike MW2 which had like 15 missions which were playable with a buddy.
I say GOW2 beats MW2

Bandwagon post, the campaign was actually pretty good.
Gears is much better. MW2 butchered CoD4's story and added a load of OP weapons and unbalanced killstreak rewards. Gears 2 fixed the issues of Gears and added some fun new modes/weapons.

I don't understand you guys, you admit the singleplayer and spec ops are good, but you think the MP is absolute shit?
They're both the same stuff, but just online (or versus in spec ops's case)
Gears of War 2 is better but it feels to much like the first one (in my opinion).

The reason they hate it is because of overpowered killstreaks, unbalanced weapons, and the horrible matchmaking system, things absent or that don't matter in Singleplayer and Spec Ops.
