• Looking for an RTS game that focuses more on playing together, rather than against.

Hey people, I'm wondering, if anyone knows of a multiplayer RTS game, or any other genre if you can think of one, that you focus more on working together to build something. Whether it be an economy, city, castle etc. I have stronghold 2, and that's really good to an extent, with setting up trade routes and stuff, but to "win" you have to kill each other. Also it gets kinda boring playing it like that after 30 mins or so. Hope you get what i'm saying ;) Thanks!
I suppose the most coop-y RTS you can buy is AI War: Fleet Command. There's no PvP. At all. Every human cooperates against the AI players.
Ah right, i'll look into that. Thanks ;) Do you know of any non-warfare based RTS game's that are multiplayer?
Sins of a Solar Empire? There's ways to win economically, iirc. The genre generally lends itself to blowing the other person up, so you're not going to have much choice.
Um, I think in the civilization games you can win by getting into space before the other player. I never played it just something I heard.
Red Alert 3 has a few coop missions. Of course, it is blowing shit up, but RTS genre is based on that.
CoH online skirmish. But the building isn't very in-depth.
DotA for Warcraft 3?
Battleforge, free too. has quite abit of coop but you don't really build bases or manage any economics.
Civilization IV is what you're looking for. Setting up trade routes with a partner and just increasing your borders through warfare or economy. People will always happily sell cities for enough money. But honestly, Civ IV is great when you have a non-AI partner (ie, a real person) and you can just connect up your cities and help each other out, though you do need warfare 75% of the time to get more land (towards later years when most land is taken up) and to keep greedy neighbours at bay. Age of Mythology has some good team gamemodes online, I'm not sure how many people still play it though.
Pharaoh mother fuckers
The Anno series does have some warfare, but the warfare is secondary to the economics of the game. I'm still playing around with it, not entirely sure what to think just yet.
Pharaoh mother fuckers
Zeus put more into the trade and war systems, which really helped it. But Pharoah/Cleopatra definitely are economy based games. And are a shitload of fun.
RA3 :smug:
You can play against the AI with online players in Company of Heroes.
Really anything, You can Comp stomp in every RTS.

A lot of the buildings rely on each other and different resources, and you have to build the right ones at the right times to not get run over. Also, Civilization games usually end up in everyone killing each other. You can team up so you and another player can defeat all of the other civilizations, but in the end you will just kill each other anyway.
Spring RTS has a survival mode, requires a shit load of teamwork to beat it.
Spring RTS has a survival mode, requires a shit load of teamwork to beat it.
Chicken defense is absolutely brutal if that's what you're talking about. Everyone needs to make a contribution to the defense or everybody's boned. But I think the OP's looking more for games with economic friendly solutions rather than a standard military RTS where you have to use teamwork.
Battleforge has alot of co-op missions.
Nearly any game with AI players is good for a so called "comp stomp". Sadly it's hard to find one online, and not many want to play against AI.
Hearts of Iron 3 is really fun to play with friends. Only problem is that it's not gonna be very balanced, meaning that one guy might get a lot more resources than the other.
Get TA: Spring, do a compstomp. [editline]01:04PM[/editline]
Battleforge has alot of co-op missions.
Too bad it's shit.
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II You have co-op for the singleplayer campaign, good AI for skirmish, and the Last Stand co-op gamemode. There ya go.
Get dawn of war 1 and play ageinst npcs.
In the game World in Conflict you need to rely heavely on your teammates in order to win the game. But that is team vs team with a heavy emphasis on coop
Get TA: Spring, do a compstomp. [editline]01:04PM[/editline] Too bad it's shit.
A shame it is a great game with alot of qualities, it has its downsides too but I find it rather very enjoyable.
Ah right, thank's alot for all of your replies, has helped alot ;)
How about Transport Tycoon? Almost no warfare at all, and it's all about trade routes and economics :v:
