Well the MOTY awards from Moddb are over, and here are the winners!
Note that only mods that have projects on ModDB are eligible. Sorry if that really-cool-but-obscure-mod didn't make it because of that. Though most mods tend to have ModDB profiles anyways so it's all good.
The editors choice winners are picked from the editors themselves, and they determine winners mostly based on how effective the mod's PR is (for unreleased), how interesting/exciting the concept is, how technologically impressive it is (for what ever game it runs on), etc.
The players choice winners were determined through a long voting processes of several months that took place between November and January. The top 100 mods were then chosen from these votes, and among the top 100 they are sorted and player's voted again for mods they thought deserved attention.

Note: Mods that already won MOTY in some form or another in previous years (including getting in the top 10 for a category) are not eligible to win unless they manage to rank higher than what they did in the previous years or had a major update.
Thank fuck BMS isn't on there.
Oh god the persons voice for the mod of the year award it's just so annoying.
And why is the gameplay so boring it's meant to drum up people wanting to play it not fall asleep.
Thank fuck BMS isn't on there.
They got honorable mention for unreleased though, which means it would have probibly won if they didn't already win under most-anticipated mod in the past years.
Thank fuck BMS isn't on there.
Wow. This is exactly what I was going to say after I checked the awards.
5 years and 3 Months it's been worked on so far, that's almost as long as it took valve to make HL2 since releasing Half Life, and that was with a new engine and having to scrap a lot of previous work because of the leaked version.
Naruto for best upcoming mod?
What the fuck.
I hadn't heard of most of these :P Looking forward to that zombie mod for hl2 now though
While I don't agree with their opinions, I'm glad Research & Development is #2 on the MOTY list.

Are you complaining about how long it is taking people to make a FREE mod in their own time when they have lives aswell? It was valves job to make half life 2, it isn't their life work to make the mod.
Is The Haunted any good?

Not really, but you'd at least have thought they'd have got even a most basic alpha demo ready in five years.
Zeno Clash should have won the art direction award IMO
Congratulations Korjax for MWLL winning Best Multiplayer for Editors Choice for best multiplayer mod and mod of the year 2009.

Why the hell would a commercial game be in mod awards?
How many people play that mechwarriors game online?
Lol Naruto
Why the hell would a commercial game be in mod awards?
Because its a mod.
Out Of Hell looks pretty sweet, might try it out
Because its a mod.
It's not a mod. That's like saying that Left 4 Dead is a HL2 mod and that it should have won an award here.
Naruto for best upcoming mod?
What the fuck.
You gotta admit though it looks really good. I mean that shit's running on the HL1 engine even if the IP it's based around makes me want to cringe.
Also have they shown any idea of what Overgrowth's gameplay is or is everyone just drooling over the editor?

Why even bother making the mod if they complain that it steals their freetime.

Zeno Clash is a mod. I don't know the details but it went retail on steam, kinda like Gmod.
How many people play that mechwarriors game online?
On the latest beta patch there's probibly at least 100 people playing at most times last I checked. Hopefully since we won x4 16-32 player servers, moty, and will be releasing an update here soon it'll jump up in numbers some more :)

ModDB covers mods and indie games. Zeno Clash is an indie game.
Still waiting on my Blood Asp ;)

And to think one of the other nominated mods for that category is by the same guy who made Afraid of Monsters.
How do you not vote for that?
Also have they shown any idea of what Overgrowth's gameplay is or is everyone just drooling over the editor?
It's basically a brawler/fighter/ninja combat combo. The spirtual succesor to that old indie game lugaru which was this:

Why can the announcer pronounce anything.
DEYOOS SEX
Shotgun Sunrise needs more players.
And more levels.
It's fucking fun.
