Name: Peaceful Plains
Seed: chezhead
Description: A really, really neat starting world with a forest and plains right near 0,0. Seriously, this is probably the best map for making cities or just starting out. There's a snow biome near the southwest of 0,0, and some mountains south of 0,0 as well. A nice little ocean is to the east.
You can see mountains in the background as well, so this looks over-all like a simple, yet balanced world its a really near peaceful map with plenty of trees behind 0,0 and a couple mountains in the distance. This would be great for villages or just starting to make a nice little house.
POINTS OF INTEREST: There's a snow biome near the east of 0,0, and some mountains wast of 0,0 as well. A nice little ocean is to the south, and to the east of 0,0 are some plains with caves. West of the spawn are lots of trees.

"...This can be a series of numbers, letters, or symbols. A Seed works as a base number for a random generation of a map, in older versions when maps were randomly generated the seed was picked randomly."
"...It has been confirmed that the same seed will result in the same map, the spawn location however is still random."

What? No. Anythings works, everyone just spawns in different places. It's been tested.

Text should work. If it didn't I'm sure MC would throw a Java exception. Text is a string, I assume that the algorithm uses integers, so Java would throw an error as it cannot understand a string in the algorithm. Text is likely converted from Unicode/ ASCII (not sure which now) into its Integer equivalent. Thus stopping the error.
I hope that makes sense and clears some of this stupidity up.
Yep, but like 6426 or l33t won't.
Actually navigate to the same position in the map and THEN compare.
Then again. If I remember my Java. All text box input is stored as a string anyway, so no matter what you enter it will likely be converted to a usable integer.

Words don't work.
Any one got one for a snowy map with some mountains?
You mind if I work on an OP for you, so it doesn't look so barren? Just a little clarification on the rules, what a seed actually does, etc.
Just ask.
Yeah, I dont know what a seed does to tell the truth. I know it creates rules for the map generation to follow but I dont know how to make one other than typing random numbers.

Please do, I made this in a rush to stop the seed flood.
Excellent. I'll get to work.
OP, could you please organize the original post when we get a list of seeds?
I propose:
Seed #
Location (x,y,z)
Picture
as a format.

Try just typing in "winter" without quotes of course.
WORDS WORK, I JUST CHECKED IT WITH winter.
yeah they do, I tried a few and luckily got a spawn point near. idkfa seed for some medium desert. -30 79 30 xyz
Well winter makes a nice snowy place, but I cant find out how to make a desert map... I tried desert and that didn't work.

Barren seems to make a desert, although I'm not sure of the size of it.
From the official minecraft forums:
omgjizzfacelol
There should be a beach near spawn/on spawn, with a half submerged dungeon.
Edit:

Yup, it works.
I got new content for op though. :v:
Can you stack seed types? Say I wanted omgjizzfacelol and winter on the same map?
Coolity, some that you put on the OP weren't found by you.
As taken from the Minepedia.
1 - A series of small islands, some which include small pools of water, and large amounts of sand/clay.
2 - Lots of stone mountains/canyons visible.
3 - Flat islands of sand.
4 - You are spawned in the middle of a desert.
5 - Flying stone cliff above water. Open air dungeon.
404 - Map with a sinkhole at the coordinates -25, 65, 15.
21ab - Middle of an ocean with many islands.
100 - Desert.
666 - Big desert.
87654321= Small grassy patch, surrounded by snow and ice.
1234567890 - Large flat grass areas.
l33t - Floating islands.
DIM-1 - Large overhangs, plenty of floating islands, several 'mountains', and a large snow biome with many Pine trees.
Mayor - Floating land structure near spawn.
Minecraft - Lots of wood near spawn, a beautiful world in general.
Glacier - lots of floating cliffs but just a cool world
9000.1 - lots of floting sand and water falls
omgjizzfacelol - Puts you in a desert with a zombie mob spawner to your left. (Not a joke)
notch - Some clay, a little lake that may lead out to the ocean, and a lot of sand on the islands. Nothing really special.

minecraft
You should spawn in a good-sized sandpit
Also, try this:
hell

Yeah, I dont know what a seed does to tell the truth. I know it creates rules for the map generation to follow but I dont know how to make one other than typing random numbers.
You are close. The seed is not a set of rules. It is a starting point for a algorithm (which is a set of rules). For example, we will call the seed x, x is given a value of your choice. The algorithm is told to take x, multiply it by 5, add 20, divide it by 2, add 3, then subtract 30. So starting with x as 50 for example would give you 108, while if x was 20 you would get 63.
The result from that is used by Notch to create a heightmap to give a layout for the map. Then shit like biomes are applied, the various layers of rock are added, ores are seeded and more dirt is thrown in randomly. Finally water is added at layer 64 (I think that's the middle layer) for sea level water.
