I remember I found it after I got back from the beach (late summer 2010 about august 20th or so) because I had just beaten Spirit tracks and I listened to it's music while I played minecraft classic.
also in before indev master race.
Sometime in August 2009, they had a little blurb about Minecraft in PCPP Magazine (for Australians), and I decided to give it a go, so I purchased it.
I was gifted it by a friend when the 2 for 1 deal was going on back before notch had implemented crafting benches I think.
around the end of alpha
I started playing around the time it was first available for purchase. I saw some news about it, tried the free survival and figured it couldn't hurt to buy it.
Within the first month it was publicly playable, and I was the 910th purchaser. :smug:
In the first month. #1,100ish :smug:
PCGamer got me hooked :D
Within a week of the beta. But I bought it in Alpha :smug:
I'm one of the first couple hundred buyers or so, I owned Minecraft before there was even multiplayer.

Correction: Pre-Creative master race.
I was playing Infiniminer at the time. Everyone here started talking about it. I remembered hating it for being a rip off. Then I watched videos and realized it had way more to offer than Infiniminer. So I tried Classic, really enjoyed it and figured "what the hey, let's buy this game." It was only $10 and it said I could have all future releases free so I didn't think I had anything to lose. I set up a Paypal account just for that game.
Minecraft is awesome! I still have the e-receipt. I bought it Mar 31, 2010. Great times were had :D
Since Alpha, around June 2010

Me too! Except the 200 part. I'm pretty sure there were thousands of buys before me.
Looking at the version history I must have been playing this game a lot longer than when I bought it. I remember a lot of these things being announced and updated. Oh well, I supported Mojang during Infdev then.

I don't even remember where I heard of it, but I loved it. Dirt, stone, cobble, plank, and plant. Good times.
I remember trees, then multiplayer creative, then sponges and cloth, then survival test, then /indev/, /infdev/, /game/, alpha, beta... Yeah. Weird that it's almost been 2 years.
About 2 months ago, I was at one of my friends houses and he told me to try it. It was awesome. I then went directly home, bought it, and played for 9 hours straight.
A few weeks ago
Around September last year, I tried classic mode for about five minutes, and was instantly eager to play the alpha. Luckily someone just gave me their account, and I was instantly hooked.
45 minutes before Redstone came out.
Browsing FP sometime in July 2010 I found the Minecraft megathread so I tried out the classic one. On August 2nd I bought the alpha version.
end of june 2010
I think august, inacio Gave me an account to try the Game And got the full version on december 2nd (it was a gift from a facepunch user)
I'm glad to be an Alpha User :v:
1 day before the change to beta
July 2009.
After Dexter (that's his name on steam, can't remember his name here) bought it for me the day before it went beta.
:h:
Sometime back in indev.
That's all I remember. :v:
Willeran gifted it to me a day or two before reeds :buddy:
I can't remember when this was, but it was when you could randomly spawn "mobs" (which were what our default character skins are now) that danced around the level you generated, but there wasn't anything to do but wander around and spawn the mobs :v:
