Starport: Galactic Empires is a free, space-oriented, massively multiplayer online role-playing game which uses a third-person overhead view similar to that used in Asteroids. The game uses semi-realistic 2-dimensional physics for both space and atmospheric travel, affecting both the movement of ships and player-fired weaponry. Characters can conquer and colonize planets with a variety of different terrains depending on the type of planet. The player can harvest resources, generate money, and produce weapons with their colony. Starport shares many core concepts with Tradewars 2002, notably the commodity trading and planet controlling aspects.
This is one of the best MMO's I have ever played.
IMO the best part of this game is invading other planets and conquering them, in turn earning a shitload of cash.
Anyway, here are some screenshots

Used to play this. Can't remember the reason why I stopped, but I think it was because of the silly colonizing system and the pay to win gameplay aspects.
The server I am playing on is called the "Dark-Matter Jungle". If you want to play join that server.
The title makes no sense seeing as EVE is around.
This looks kinda good, may check it out.

You only have to pay for an EVE sub if you suck at it. I haven't paid to play since August of '09.

This is why EVE is one of the best games on the market and it has some of the smartest marketing.

Or if you're new, when you first start you'd have to grind for months just to get a month for free.
Anyways I've played this game and it's fun but most of the planets in servers are already colonized to hell and it's impossible to accomplish anything without a group.
Yeah, if you are coming in brand new with no idea how to play it can take a few months. If you already have played before I have seen some guys take the starting isk and make nearly a billion in the first month.
Not really sure what you mean by colonized planets, talking planetary interaction?
You put a colony on the planet, then its "your" planet, then you surround it with Flak Cannons and the other ones I forget what they're called. Last time I played, every planet had a space colony in a corner somewhere with about 500 cannons lining the entry.
I used to play this, but got bored, I managed to take a few colonies and such, but some assholes always wanted to nick my secret hideout colonies which fucked up my day-do. I mean they weren't even worth taking, they were just for logging off and remaining safe.
