What is 3rd person gameplay? - Games

A friend and I were arguing about the idea of 3rd person game play. Would a game with a viewpoint such as Command and Conquer be considered a 3rd Person game play experience? Because we cant work it oiut

Actually I believe it would... but I have no idea.

Logically - yes, because there is a guy watching everyone/thing from above, thus he's a 3rd person. But in general, gamers would never say that RTSs are 3rd person games, they are just RTS.

A third person game would be where you see the character you are controlling, Max Payne for example Command and conquer is a strategy game, It offers a birds eye view of everything.

A third-person game would be a game like Gears of War, where you look over the player characters shoulder. A first person game would be like Bioshock 2, where you see through the eyes of the player character.

I though so, as you could be considered the commander and don't "play" as any of the units on the field

i'm pretty sure that 3rd person would be what you'd describe as the veiw point of stratagy games as 3rd person is supposed to be all seeing and not really focussed on one thing

In literary terms, it's third person. If you're talking about games, though, it's a top-down view.

First person since you are the commander controlling the troops. :D

Third-Person means speaking/viewing of the narrator. In this case the player character. So no, RTS do not count.

RTS would be the third person plural game. As you are controlling [B]THEM[/B].
