Evening folks,
I'm looking for a new game, and i've been seeing stalker for a year or so now, but i've never had the urge to get it.
What is it like from a story point of view, is it good?
What genre does it conform to? - Action, horror, roleplay etc.
How does the gameplay differ to that of fallout 3 <-- I love that game.
Is it freeroam or linear gameplay?
Cheers for any replies. :)
peace.
it's freeroam, the story is good, it's an FPSRP, to fallout 3... Well it's certainly different but it's still my favorite series of games.
You missed the megathread: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=895611
Lots of information there, if you have any questions just post them and you'll most likely get a proper answer.
and the proper answer is yes
Alright then =p
Thanks =D
If you like F3 as a shooter rpg, you'll love STALKER. Fallout has such clumsy FPS mechanics that weigh down the fun of exploring I had to stop playing, it was so boring to encounter an enemy and use vats? for the thousandth time no thanks. The AI will challenge you a lot and it's quite easy to do if you aren't careful, making success much more satisfying.
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssss.
[sp]CoP is a great game, worth every penny.[/sp]
The only question is, STALKER:SoC, STALKER:CS, or STALKER:CoP?
I've only tried the original so I'm actually not really sure which is more worth it.
Alright, i thinks that's gonna be my new game ;)
cheers everyone.

I'm thinking CoH because Clear Sky is a prequel, and apparently not as good as CoH, and when i've done that, if i enjoyed it i can go for CoP.
(I don't like prequels.)
It's a very good game, SoC has slightly outdated visuals, but still looks pretty damn nice. The modding for it changes so much though, so watch out with what you download.
Can the steam version be modded?
TBH It really boring you shot someone 30 times with a pistol and they still alive

and you're a dick with no patience

You just have to learn to aim. Doesn't take long
I was thinking this a while ago mate, i bought Shoc and played for 5 minutes then stopped thinking it was utter balls, then i gave it a chance and i'm loving it now. You get really immersed in the atmosphere.
(and i'm only in Shoc, i can't wait to play Clear sky and Pripyat)
Can the steam version be modded?
Yes, just like every version. Just check if the mod is for 1.0005/1.0006 (They're the same version SP-wise, steam uses 1.0005)

Exactly what I did, I saw some guy on the ground asking me to give him a medkit. I pick it up, then trade the guy the medkit, he continues looping the same soundfile so I try talking to him, then he goes to say that he doesn't have a fucking medkit.
I'll give it another shot later.
I got SoC on sale for like $5 or whatever and didn't like it much. Just came back to it and once you start playing, its great! The no auto-save feature is really irritating though.
Get Call of Pripyat.

There was a mod released for autosave, but it creates a new file every save it makes, which ends up raping your save game folder.

You're not supposed to trade the medkit with him, it gives you a conversation option IF you have a medkit on you.
'Here, take this medkit' or something.

Never knew about that mod. I'll check it out. Thanks.
i agree that you should definitely get all 3, however, i heartedly recommend playing them in order, and recommend atleast ONE vanilla playthrough of each (patched of course) before modding.
at a glance, for mods:
shoc:
AMK (this can work on 1.0005 after a little tweak)
complete 2009 (basically a much better 'as it should be' vanilla
L.U.R.K (some favour this the most, though personally, im an amk man.
some would also say oblivion lost, but i feel AMK is better (personal opinion.)
cs:
not 100% on this as i never really used many total conversion type mods, mainly graphic overhauls, sound and texture mods really.
cop:
atmosfear is a must have
S.M.R.T.E.R is a favourite, though i dont have it myself.
most of the graphic mods for cs work on this too.
rulix a.I mod is a good one.
just a few opinions
shoc has the biggest mod base mainly as its the oldest, and probably the most loved in many respects.
yhough personally i definitely feel cop can hold its own in a relative way.
Better hope you're able to run it.
Hope you're not like me. I meet all the system requirements with ease, but I have yet to play this game because it crashes every time I attempt to launch it. I can't even get so far as having the screen turn momentarily black, and I've been waiting two weeks for an answer from their tech support.
I mean I've been talking to them, but :iiam: as to why my computer can't run SoC
patched it?
obvious question i know
patched it?
obvious question i know
It's the Steam version, so it automatically patches.
But I tried downloading patches anyway, and I couldn't install them because (surprise, surprise) it says my game is already up to date.
If it's an obvious solution, odds are I've tried it at least 5 times.
I've also tried all manner of obscure solutions.

It's a great game, be sure to play it at 3am with all the lights out.

it does seem that the steam version , even when patched, does have its own little quirks that the retail does not. i think its something to do with the auto patching system or whatever, as its not the most stable of games anywyay, cant say as i know of any fixes for this im afraid

Cheers for any replies. :)

I recommend it. Answers above.
