Hey, What would you guys think of a indie game released on steam using goldsource, would people not buy it based on its older graphics but it was still fun and non-repetative?
If it was really fun and really non-repetitive and quite cheap I would.
I would say "Why didn't they just make it on Source instead, that's pretty dumb" then I would look to see if it was any good.
:P

This except the last part.
This thread is a mindfuck.
Seeing as you can't get Gold Source games on steam, I'm guessing they wouldn't distribute a mod for an obsolete engine which has been updated to the Source engine.
I wish valve would release the goldsrc engine, like the unreal sdk.

Making it open source would be cool too!

So true, Valve would gain a better reputation if they released half-lifes source.

No.
Faulty Logic, Condition Zero was on steam at release
Well, it's technically a sequel for the game that was already out on steam. So, not as faulty.

The SOURCE ENGINE
The TIME TRAVELLING GAME ENINE
wasn't The Ship made in Goldsource?
Is was originally a Half-Life mod before being made into a Source game.

I wonder how mod teams get the cash to go independent especially on a engine like Source. Source engine costs a moderately sized six figures + a royalty.

Source engine is mostly free, unless you want absolute control over the source code... then it's a six figure sum.
Unless they had a deal with Valve/Steam when they sold it.
