The one with this cover : http://images.wikia.com/half-life/en/images/0/06/Half-Life_Generation_BS.jpg Sorry if this isn't really the best place to be asking this; I prefer having my games in boxed retail versions rather than on steam or something so was thinking of buying this pack of Half Life and the expansions and the like, but I'd rather avoid finding that after buying it someones already used the CD Key for their steam account and I'm unable to play the games. I've googled around a bit but can't really find a definite answer, does anybody on here know? My endless love to anyone who helps :h:
Nope, it doesn't! It's the original retail edition. However, the patches on it are probably outdated and you can't join the servers with an outdated version - also, the servers will not even WORK because there is no WON network anymore. It's all Steam nowadays. It may delighten you that activating the CD key on that particular version of the game activates ALL GoldSrc games (this includes DoD, CS, CS:CZ, CS:CZ:DS, all HL1 games, ricochet, deathmatch classic, TFC) on STEAM. I had a copy myself, and this CD key trick works with ALL old half-life discs. Better just suck it up and start using Steam, it's way easier than fiddling with outdated copies of the games. [editline]8th April 2011[/editline] There are minor advantages to your approach, such as the capability of playing mods that do not work with Steam. Most of them HAVE been fanpatched though, but I won't blame you for wanting to play HL Rally, Gladiators, Bumpercars (personal favourite) or something like The Gate. The only reason I'd use an old version of Half-Life and it's expansions would be for playing old mods. Also! Gunman Chronicles, a REALLY old Sierra game made using the old GoldSrc engine, activates all HL1 games on Steam. That's how I got about 8 more games to my Steam games list.
Woah, I still have that package and all the games except for Counter-Strike. Good times. By the way, you should get Half-Life: Anthology if you want the games on retail.
