• Thinking about getting Minecraft, how's the MP scene?

I've been on the fence about Minecraft for awhile, but I need a new game to spend my time on. What's the scene like in MP? Basically, I'm looking for a replacement for Wurm Online. Are there PvP survival servers, where you can make towns and nations and whatnot where everything is persistent? I once read about a 300 player server on a huge-ass map, with pretty much everything I described, but I couldn't find it again. Anyone know what I am talking about? Is it as good/fun as it sounds? From what I have seen and read about it seems like there's a lot of small survival servers and a lot of dicking around/sandboxiness, but are there any really huge survival servers where nationbuilding takes place? That's what the big draw was for me about Wurm Online, and I've really wanted to play a game like Wurm but without the MMO bullshit.
Get it. :v: There's loads of different servers, and quite a few like that. Me and Chezhead are making one a lot like that at the moment
yeah but are there any servers that have like 150+ people on at once, that don't have ridiculous "giant tacobell" or "giant pac man machine" or "reproduction yankee stadium" buildings basically like a hard survival rp server only with no rp involved
the server would need a shit load of ram and stuff. There's a few yeah, but not many.

Not likely
150 people and no giant structures? Not likely
i think he means like no pixel art and unrealistic stuff
i think he means like no pixel art and unrealistic stuff
pmuch they did not have football stadiums supported by a single column of lava or giant tacobells in the middle ages

They have rules on medieval style structures, but you'll still have some large ass tunnel systems or castles. [editline]10th April 2011[/editline] Not really hardcore survival servers though because surviving really isn't that hard.
Can you show me one of those servers? I've never been on a server with more than about 15 people.

I personally find it to be a huge fuck-fest and it's not really fun if you want to just build. It's really fun to form gank squads and go PVPing though. [editline]10th April 2011[/editline] One time I was building a little shelter in the ground when someone in full iron pops out from below me and proceeds to kill me. Was pretty fun.
Minecraft is most fun with close friends. Whatever you decide to do, have a good friend who knows the ropes come along and stick together. (Or, for added fun, get a good friend who is as new as you are. Have capers together.)
If you're going to play online make sure you have fast as fuck internet or prepare to lag otherwise.
Again, it's all about the people you play with. I have a buddy who goes on wacky cave explorations with me. Always ends up shooting me in the back.
