Seeing lots of people don't know about Blizzard's [sp](Steam Clone)[/sp] new Battle.net, I've decided to make a thread about it.
[release]
Battle.net is Blizzard's new online game service, exclusively available to Blizzard games.
It has the following features:

Cross-game chatting

One account for all upcoming (and current) Blizzard Games

After registering your purchased serial key with Battle.net you can download the games for free!

User profiles

Much more!
It has not been announced yet, but some datamining shows that there will be an external client for Battle.net, like Steam.
[/release][release]
You're confused with the classic Battle.net. Blizzard's previous "social networking" system. It was used in the Starcraft, Diablo and Warcraft RTS games.
They re-used the name for some reason.[/release]
[release]
At the time of writing, it's in Starcraft II. It is also coming to World of Warcraft and Diablo 3.
[/release][release]
Allright then, here's some screenies of the new Battle.net in action!

Yeah, Starcraft II and World of Warcraft have received some specific features:

a Marketplace where you can download (or buy, paying to the author) maps, themes, gamemodes, skins, mods.

Excelleten looking thread. Good job
Great job on the thread Marlamin. Cannot wait for the new battle.net.
New Bnet is pretty sleek, not sure if I want another external client like steam though

Me neither, but seeing you can probably chat with in-game WoW friends, and I'm sure there will be some guild chat thingy, it's way easier than going in-game to check if any raids are running.
This sounds cool, the market place feature... sounds interesting...
New battle.net, Hmm..
What if Steam and Battle.net social networking got combined? Would it be sweet?
But I like this, looks preety slick.
This sounds cool, the market place feature... sounds interesting...
Best thing is, if you put a price to your stuff (and if its good enough) you get the full profit.
Well , the friends list feature looks interesting...
It's kind of lame that they have no way of supporting Diablo I...
If there is indeed going to be an external client, they could add an overlay for Diablo I like Steam does. :v:
Cross faction chat for WoW... I don't like the sounds of that.
Cross Realm chat for WoW? I can imagine getting flamed by that 2s team I just beat.

They probably mean that you can chat with people on your friends list on the other faction/realm.

Shame hardly anyone plays it on b.net any more :crying: And if I do find a game, its laggy, or I cannot connect
Will this make you able to chat with players on other realms in WoW?
Will this make you able to chat with players on other realms in WoW?
If you have the in your friends list, sure.
This thread is pretty.
at blizzcon 09 I remember hearing about a way to chat with people in other games
Say your playing starcraft 2 and your friend is playing wow. You could chat with them.
Blizzards tech support for these kind of things are awesome. Anyway just saying
Blizzard is really good to their communities. They still release patches for their decade old games, they recreate all of Battle.net with moddability and community in mind, and they have spent ages on their new Starcraft 2 editor.
I'm so damn excited for SC2 after seeing what their new editor can do.
A long time ago when Blizzard first was mentioning the new b.net they said it would be a "premium service" meaning there would be a charge. Does anyone have any info on if that's still true?

You realize they're releasing the SC2 campaigns separately right? It will cost you $150 to get the full game.
The only real reasons i'm buying SC2 are the campaigns and the editor. Paying extra for longer campaigns is completely fine with me, aslong as they're the same quality as SC1 or any other Blizzard game. I imagine if all you care about is online skirmish, you don't need to buy all of them.

No prices have been confirmed yet, just guesstimated by online retailers, as always.

Sounds about right, Although you have to admit, its almost the same
Sounds about right, Although you have to admit, its almost the same
It is. Why do you think the thread has a Steam post icon? :v:

Oh Blizzard...
They enjoy sneaking a good joke in sometimes, Since they like to appease some specific fans, But generally please 99% of the fanbase.
I liked the old Battle.net more, the idea of it being a marketplace is kind of annoying IMO.

You've been able to do that with Steam for years. Hell, you can do it with XFire, too.

It's not going to be one of those "pay for everything" things. I guess they will let you pay for completely seperate "mods". Like Counter-Strike: Source was for Half-Life 2.
Look at the Starcraft II modding capabilities:
