I just bought Super Street Fighter IV after playing and loving Soul Calibur IV. I figured it would be nice to get a fist fighting game since I've been playing one based around weapons and equipment. I purchased SSF4 based on its good reviews and nostalgia value.
What I found was not enjoyable in the least.
I chose easy and went through the arcade with Ryu. I figured easy would be best since it was my first time playing. I went through the levels generally uninterested in what I was doing. Training did nothing but give me a punching bag, and arcade was the same with a slightly livelier punching bag.
Then I hit the rival... He blocked everything but one or two punches and constantly knocked me down and stunned me. On easy? I thought it was a ridiculous learning curve that the last fight would be this hard.
I did not enjoy having a combo list of 4 (excluding the 2 ultras and one super) and basically doing nothing but button mashing.
Is there something I missed in this game? I found it to be horrible and I just wanted to see what you guys think.
Combo's =/= Specials.
You have to make your own combo's or find some on websites like eventhubs.com in order to get them down. Inputting specials like fireball or uppercut aren't combo's.

p.s. ssfiv has super salty people get mvc3 or get ggpo and play 3s (third strike), st (SUPER STREET FIGHTER 2: TURBO LET'S GO LET'S GO LET'S GO), or kof (king of fighters).
i believe you missed the thing, those are not the combos. those are simply the moves the character has. you'll have to find out what works and what doesn't, for example in chocolate street fighter 4, a light punch shoryuken>super would combo anywhere on the screen. you're just gonna have to work it out, or request help
it's not even possible to button mash in street fighter, your character just stays in place and spasms out
go through the challenge mode to learn basic combos and how the game works, you will enjoy it at least 100% more when you know what you're doing
SF4 isnt like other fighter games, it actually requires a lot more skill.
There's specific frame data and knowledge on what counters what, which you NEED to know.

if you're going to play the game casually, you don't need to know all that frame data stuff
just learn some simple combos, and you'll have fun
p.s. when playin against a gouken just play honda and buttspam all day long.
Anus.
maybe next time don't play on easy ever think of that?

Also you are getting combos and Specials mixed up.
I personally think street fighter 4 revived the fighting franchise myself.
First off, Training mode has options. The Default is a punching bag, this is so you can practice your combos and moves. Second, you were playing the game on easy, what the fuck do you expect?
watch some team spooky streams, they usually stream big events as well as their own casual matches in various fighting games.

spam hhs then
if this is going to turn into a proper SF4 thread, a non-shit op would be cool
or a new thread altogether
Hadouken - Helicopter - Hadouken all day everyday.
No seriously I can't win an online match because this is all the other guy uses.
There are a few moves to get past it. You just have to practice it in training.
SFIV is not a game for having fun.
If you want fun but no balance, go play MVC3.

People moaning about how they have trouble playing this game and getting used to the controls should learn a few things from this guy.
