Lord of Ultima is a free browser based RTSMMO set in the world of Ultima, launched by EA. You initially control one village and manage resources such as wood, iron, stone and grain. You use your resources to strategically build buildings in your village according to your resource bonuses, it is up to you to concentrate economically or militarily. Each village has its own unique resource bonuses which means a certain village may have loads of iron to make it perfect for becoming a training ground, or plenty of wood to quickly grow into a thriving economic powerhouse.
Town map (This is about a fifth of the actual size, the town size you get is huge)

One way in which this game sets itself apart from other RTSMMOs like Travian is the element of PvE included in the game. Occasionally, dungeons or encounters appear on the map and your forces can be sent to raid the dungeon and bring back loot, sometimes a boss creature will be found in the dungeons. From completing raids and killing bosses you can loot special items available from the shop, which makes PvE a vital and important aspect of the game and increasing your resources. Below is a screenshot of a raid in progress, afterwards a report screen will be displayed which shows unit losses, enemy losses and loot plundered. Raiding also scouts out enemy numbers in a dungeon.

Another way the game proves itself to be unique is the chance to research and improve construction speeds, taxation, movement speeds etc. More on this once I actually unlock it.
Players can trade once they have constructed a marketplace (which can also be used to tax adjacent houses) via a panel on the region map. You can send resources, make offers open to everyone, see offers from other people, request resources from your other towns or purify resources. Making an offer is like putting an article on craigslist, you just say what you want (e.g, 5000 wood) and what you are willing to pay for it. Anybody can take this offer at any time and your carts need to travel the distance so as you can tell, trading is anything but instant.

War is obviously a huge part of the game but don't worry! When you start you are given a 7 day non-hostility grace period in which you cannot be attacked so you can grow, and if that doesn't make you feel comfortable you can even buy grace periods from the shop for up to 21 days of protection, even then you can only be conquered if the enemy has a castle, which is very expensive and a big hassle to have. There are a huge number of units to recruit, town watch are the most basic infantry which cannot leave the town, they gain their bonuses instead from towers built within the town. The have a very low food upkeep and recruit very quickly. Other units specialize in attack against specific units or can move fast or can loot a lot, but also have weaknesses. Siege units for example move very slowly, and berserkers, although very powerful, are weak against magic and archers.
The shop is a non-integral part of the game and is a short term option for players who want to get moving quickly. The amount of items you can use is limited by the amount of mana you have (slow recharge) so there is no chance of a player popping up next to you and springing up a castle because he spent £1000 on diamonds. ALL shop items can be looted from dungeons or awarded from quests.
Currently we are trying to create a Facepunch alliance on World 27 Continent 11. HezzyFP is the alliance leader.
Continent 11 is full, Viper202 has made the second alliance on World 27 Continent 41 which is 3 continents below 11.
Tips for starting out
• Don't bother wasting resources on defensive buildings until day 6 of your grace period
• Focus as much as you can on wood production early on
• Use your iron to recruit berserkers
• Send berserkers to dungeons in groups of 15, there is a cap to how much loot you can bring back from a level 1 dungeon and this seems to be the recommended amount on the wiki
• When you are idle, demolish lone resource tiles (be careful that they cannot be bridged with a production building though) so you can use the space
• Build cottages near your buildings, particulary lumber mills early on to increase town construction speed and local production speed
• Focus as much as you can on wood production early on
• Build new production buildings rather than upgrading, wait until you hit your building cap
• One farm will last you a VERY long time
• Focus as much as you can on wood production early on
• Sawmills, stonemasons and foundries are far more beneficial for resource income than cottages, but when you switch over be careful not to demolish too many cottages as they greatly benefit town-wide construction speed
• Sawmills, stonemasons and foundry effects DO NOT STACK if two are placed next to each other
FAQ
Q. The interface is HUGE, what is going on?
A. Press F11 and go fullscreen, I think this is how it was intended to be played
Q. I just started, what should I focus on?
A. Wood production is definitely paramount, you have no need for wasting resources on defenses as you cannot be attacked for 7 days

So is this game pay to win like Ebony?
So is this game pay to win like Ebony?
No, shop bonuses are short term and there are not a lot of them, plus they can all be gained by completing quests, you get a random one every day and you can kill dungeon bosses to earn them. Also, you have mana which regenerates slowly and is required to activate items, so you can't become powerful ridiculously fast by using cash. Mana cannot be bought or increased in the store afaik.
I`ll probably try it some time. Looks pretty good.
how do I know which continent I'm on?
Where does Lord British play into this
it just isn't Ultima without Lord British
How do I accept the alliance invite?

Found it

To be honest, i cant see the resemblance with Ultima at all.
The pacing of this is spot on.
I usually get bored of browser games very quickly (Travian, et al.) but I've been playing this most of the evening and its been quite fun.
My only gripe is with the amount of time it takes to collect resources when your town is at a low level. All of us in the chat were having problems collecting a decent amount of wood.
upgrading my warehouse to level 7 haha, i hate wasted resources
If you're getting enough surplus of resources to fill a level 6 warehouse then you need to start spending shit!!
spend it on getting better resources
damn downtime :(
[editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
server is up, server is full
I was in the beta for this, it's pretty cool but boring as hell to play alone.
Here's my main wood setup

Hezzy get that shit upgraded and put some Cottages in the gaps where there are no saw mills.
I hit my building limit, just going to upgrade them and then build cottages on my next town hall upgrade
~sawmills fo lyfe~
Can't emphasise how important it is to get your wood production high as fast as possible.
Before your Town Hall is Level 6 make sure you build Cottages near your Woodcutter Huts (remember, they stack so place strategically) to get your wood count up to ~2,400/h.
Once you hit Level 6 knock down some of the Cottages and build saw mills. They don't stack so think about that when placing them. Be sure to keep at least some Cottages because they play a large factor in your overall build speed percentage.
I used to play this, but at the stage where it takes hours to days to upgrade buildings it just stops being fun so I stopped playing.
I imagine it's better in a communicating alliance
I just joined up as iPope. I read everything here so I think I might be good.
