Shattered Horizon will be exclusively DX10, motherfuckers...

Seriously? They're totally leaving us XP users behind. I've been waiting for this game for a while, just today I figured out it only ran off DX10, and thus XP isn't supported.
Yes I realize I'm late but this fucking pissed me off.
I did not, however, realize that the game came out like 4 months ago...how I missed this little bit of news I don't know.
XP is old, and so are these news. You don't have to keep up with old technology all the time. Crysis wasn't exactly made for DX7. Shattered Horizon is a game almost made to show off the amazing graphics.

I mean like come on, Futuremark made it.

Exactly. It's not their fault that people are autistic when it comes to what OS they use. "I won't upgrade because I don't like CHAAAANGE!"
For example, one of my friends is STILL sitting with an old CRT monitor because LCD's are "bad" for no reason.

I hate CRTs! I can see them REFRESH FOR CHRISTS SAKE! I can't see anything wrong with just getting windows 7 if you want to play DX10 games JUST GET FUCKING 7, it's like 100,000,000,000,000 better. Yes it is one-hundred-trillion times better than XP.
But for the other portion of PC gamers that have OSs and graphic cards fully supporting DX10, true DX10 seems like a really good deal.

Put the monitor on 85Hz not 60Hz

Well did you get it off steam?
Because steam has a huge notice on it..can't really miss it.

Alternatively get an LCD.
Why exactly does it require DirectX 10?
Cause it only uses DX10
Cause it only uses DX10
AKA it uses shit DX9 won't support
Cause it only uses DX10
Informative Man in disguise?
Why exactly does it require DirectX 10?
cause they didnt want to do extra coding to support an 8 year old OS
So, say I did want to upgrade to windows 7. Is it going to cost me any? Is it going to be a pain in the ass? Both?

Not to offend, but what do you think? Of course it will cost money. It isn't particularly expensive depending on the version you get. As far as upgrading goes, it is pretty painless, unless you don't know how and have trouble reading documentation.
Seriously just go out and buy it, 7 is terrific and vastly superior to XP. It's time to face it, XP is old and newer things won't work on it. It's just like having a 6600 and surprised most modern games won't run on it.

I'm not using Windows 7 because my DVD drive and network adapter don't seem to work properly with it and I thus can not use DVDs, CDs or the internet on it.
Asshole :frown:

It will definitely cost you.
As for it being a pain? You will hear mixed reports, some from faggots who have to have the newest, greatest thing, others from faggots who can't let shit go and only run XP because 98 is obsolete. Honestly, I urge you to think about it this way: you're changing the base for your whole computer. Not all of your hardware will work with a new OS. Not all of your software will work either. There will be growing pains.
Look up the features and find out what Win7 will do for you. If you don't think the benefits are worth the risk, don't do it until you can accept that risk. But for the love of god, don't buy Vista.

This is a very important detail. Want to have support for XP and Direct X9 apps? You will have to buy a version of Win7 that comes with support for that, and yes, only the more expensive versions have that support. So what this dipshit really means to say is "If you don't mind all of your shit not working with windows 7, just buy the cheaper version".

$150-220, cheaper than I'd expected.
It's not incredibly important, so I'll pass for now. Airsoft has left a huge hole in my wallet, so Windows 7 can wait.
This game came out in November, why are you complaining now?

Because 7 definitely doesn't support DX9 apps :downs:. ~$150 for Windows 7 Pro 64bit definitely is not terribly expensive.
Seriously, nearly everything runs, and the few things I have had trouble running had quick fixes too. So you might have one or two games or pieces of software from the '90s that won't run. Tough, move on.

Yeah, just upgrade when possible. Save up a bit and get 7, you won't regret it.
And when you do, hit me up and we'll play Shattered Horizon together.
Jeez it isn't hard to google DX10 for XP.

I have Win7 home premium. I've never had a single app that wouldn't work for me.

The graphics aren't even amazing. :v:
You're not missing out on much OP, it's a pretty shit game.
It's about time one game decided to phase out DX9. Since there's already DX10 and DX11. Even though I don't favor the removal of DX9 I'm not going to bitch about it.
Also yes the game sucks.
This makes me glad DICE didn't bother putting much time into DX9 on BC2.
I don't mind them leaving XP behind, but the reason I don't upgrade isn't that I hate change, it's because it's such a massive hassle for files and programs. Yes, the majority of my stuff is on my external hard drives, but I read a guide on moving files... Which said I'd have to reinstall everything. Since I have around 100 games installed across my drives all with save files and me and my slow downloading/DVD reading would make that a massive, massive hassle.
Also this game was released in November, you're late in finding out and wrong to use "will be" in the title.
Ah. I just remember a beta a while ago. The steam free weekend thing was is this weekend, hadn't realized it was already out until now.
You won't need to touch anything on your alternate drives. Just your main Hard Drive
I'm not switching to windows 7...
