Cortex Command is a 2d shooter/RTS(Sort of) in which you send a small group of guys to an enemy superbunker with a brain in a jar placed inside while hoping they don't get flattened by the dropship you ordered them in. While it may appear to be very simplistic, it is very unique and incredibly fun due to its physics engine.
The basic premise:

Now here's the cool part:

Similar to early versions of worms, Cortex Command has a pixel based destruction and physics system, creating fully and dynamically destructible environments and even characters to offer up some very fun, deep, and sometimes even flat out hilarious gameplay. Nothing beats shooting the active engine of a dropship then watching it fly 1000 yards before impacting someone's squishy face at lightspeed.
This also allows you to create a makeshift outpost for your Brainbot with a digger, or to breach the wall of a bunker with explosives, or have your 1000$ super-elite sniper get crushed by parts of the rocket he just shot down. Literally every pixel of a map and the things in it can be destroyed. The maps also loops infinitely, making them feel a lot more open.
There is also split screen multiplayer and controller support, allowing you to play with your friends, and a working meta-game which can be played with friends or AI. There is no online multiplayer, and before you ask, there will never be because its impossible/very hard/way to unstable and laggy because of stress on the engine or some other shit. Also included is a skirmish mode, which allows you to play some minigames/activities or hold out against endless waves of enemies.
Also make sure not to take winning to seriously, because life will regularly shit in your cornflakes in this game. When all your guys die from dropship debris, stay cool. It happens to everyone.

There is also a lovely amount of blood, giblets and dismemberment involved. Heads will explode. Funfact: Units without legs will be lighter and therefor actually be able to fly better!
One of the main areas where this game shines is its modding community, however. Cortex Command is very easy and simple to mod, and even uses Lua. There is atleast a metric crap-ton of mods on the official forums, a fair deal of which have been updated to work with the recently added Metagame.
NOTICE: Cortex Command is NOT finished (although 1.0 is said to come out this year) and is in a beta state.

Lizzrd is a developer
Cortex Command has been in development for 11 years
Cortex Command updates are released very slowly
This game has a steep learning curve
The Metagame AI is very easy to defeat when you are good at the game

First media image probably shouldn't be there, since that doesn't happen anymore. Unless you play an old build.
the title is so true
I swear to god if for some reason my brain is above ground it's guaranteed that a dropship somewhere will explode and a bolt from the on-board toilet will fly out and knock my head off
ah, man seeking as in they seek out your men makes sense. i read it as like, man seeking a new dropship part to be wife or something. y'know, like one of those ads or whatever?
This game is hours of fun and everyone should buy it.
I sometimes believe that dropship doors are scripted to always land on someone but I can't find a .lua file for it, so maybe it's just my paranoia.
It's a stupid question, but those videos have a more zoomed out view of the battlefield, while in my game I struggle with seeing further than the little aiming dots. How can I fix that?
Use a higher resolution.
the only thing i don't like is the music.
otherwise today i probably played at least 2 2 hour games.
Why the hell would you want friendly fire off?
It's one of the fun parts of the game!
Also, geti, you are too nice, that's why <3
lol
Use a higher resolution.
Well 1200somethignx1000something (It's smaller than my screen so I can put it in 2x Window) should be big enough, I think
Doesn't work like that. You get more actual game screen-space with 1024x768 than you do at 1600x1200. (800x600 doubled)
lol
That was before the metagame.

Also before I became a dev.

Okay, this is seriously getting annoying, after a week and two to three reinstalls, I still get this error message when launching the game EVERY FUCKING TIME. Any idea on what it even means?
I still think removing friendly fire was a bad move, honestly.
Well you can disable it manually then.
The majority thinks it's a good idea.
There's no FF?
I've been overtly careful for no reason?
BAH
Explosives still make stuff FUBAR.
Also gunfire against crafts.
i've actually seen the AI shoot through rockets at me and not one of their bullets collide with their rockets.
they have a fucking rocket as a shield and i'm stuck taking bullets and my only target being a dumb fucking rocket just stuck there and my enemy is safely behind it.
If I got this in the humble bundle, how do I update it to the latest build?
If I got this in the humble bundle, how do I update it to the latest build?
You get the new version the same way you got the old version.
Also, someone should write this in huge red letters in the OP, to stop people asking the same question, over and over.
When's the next build coming out?
I really want to play the campaign mode.
You can't?
I can't find the page to retrieve my key anymore

Where is that?
If that's the humble bundle one, I don't own it. I got it off of the datarealms site a few years ago
