I have my 360 since January 2006, and I've sent it back to MS about 3 times for RROD's, but this is my first E74. Seeing as the new model is out, it's time to ask, if I send back my 360, will they send me a refurbished old one or a new one, or should I just go out and buy a new model 360S? I've got the money for the latter, but I'm not sure whether it's worth it or not.
Might as well send it back, its worth a try.

Alright, heres what I did to get a refurbished.
Wrap the xbox in as many towels as you can, and turn it on.
Remember to remove the hard drive and any discs.
THIS ISNT THE TOWEL TRICK.
leave it on like that for at least 3 hours, make sure it is on.
Do this again the next day.
Your Xbox is now fucked beyond repair, if you send it in you will get a refurrbished one with a free month, as well as a year of warranty.
This is what I did and I got it back in 4 days.
I discovered this myself a year back.

When I sold my 360 to get a PS3 I suddenly had 10,000x more fun playing console games, there's a lot more interesting games on the PS3 now, you might as well sell that piece of crap that's going to be drowning in family-friendly kinect games next year so you can get a PS3/more interesting games.

Buy a new model. That's what I'm doing. My 4 year old Xbox is prone to "overheating" in the coldest weather so I'm getting a new one.
And when you get the refurbished one it will be a jasper, so you wont get RROD.

It cools down the system significantly, as in you wont get rrod unless you give it zero airflow.
I've had my Xbox since 2007 and I never got RRoD only E74 back in 2008. Anyway if you still have a warranty you should send it back.
