The RollerCoaster Tycoon series has been around since the late 90s and almost everyone attached to the PC gaming world has played or heard about these games. In the game, you run your own amusement/thrill parks in depth down to the pricing of a balloon at a souvenir stand. What set this game apart from other shitty amusement park sims was the ability to create in depth and almost realistic roller coasters.

The first RollerCoaster Tycoon is a classic. This game was one of many popular Tycoon games created by Chris Sawyer, the creator of the popular Transport Tycoon game known now as OpenTTD. Originally, Chris Sawyer had wanted to make a sequel to his highly popular Transport Tycoon game, but luckily for us, he developed a sudden obsession with roller coasters. As a result, RollerCoaster Tycoon was born. The premise of this game was simple: build a successful amusement park while catering to your guests needs and preferences. Tools used to do this ranged from bathrooms to burger stands, merry-go-rounds to hyper coasters, and paddle boats to go karts. After the original game, two expansions titled Loopy Landscapes and Corkscrew Follies were released and added new rides, roller coasters, and scenarios.

Because of the first games huge success, a sequel came out soon after. Many new roller coasters were added as well as content and scenarios from the Six Flags amusement park chain. New features such as banking upward and downward curves were added, and the scenery aspect of the game was greatly improved. RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is said to be the best game out of the series and many people agree usually agree with this without dispute. Sadly, however, this was the last RollerCoaster Tycoon game that had any input from its original creator Chris Sawyer. Like the first game, two booster packs were also added to this game: Wacky Worlds and Time Twisters.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 is the latest game in the series which transformed the game from an isometric pixel art setting to a full blown 3D environment. Scenery was brought a step further and players were finally able to ride any attraction in the park from a first person point of view. There were many criticisms about this game and many said it doesn't live up to its predecessors, yet a large amount of RollerCoaster Tycoon fans find no problem with this game at all. Custom scenery was modded for the game and a large section of the player base make amusement parks and roller coasters as realistic as possible, most to a very impressive degree. This game also catered to fans of previous games as it allowed you to import your favorite tracks from RCT and RCT2 into the game, where you can finally ride them. As with its predecessors, this game also had two expansions titled Soaked, which added pool complexes and many water slides, and Wild, which added zoo-type attractions and brought back the underground tunneling feature that was available in previous titles.

This game has the most videos to find on YouTube, but I've weeded out many of the terrible ones--believe me, there's a lot--and found some of the best videos that showcase the game's potential and limits. Keep in mind that most of these videos use custom scenery as well as custom supports to give the coasters a more realistic look.

It's been since 2004 since any new content came out for the RollerCoaster Tycoon series. Many fans eagerly await news on a new product, but so far there's been no word on any new games. There have been a lot of rumors and hoaxes, but only time will tell if we will ever see a new installment on the series.
Shit photoshop hoax:

As far as these games go for me, I remember first seeing the commercial for the original and then playing it a short time later at a neighbor's house. I was immediately addicted. Then, once the second came out, I got it for my birthday and fell in love with it. I probably spent the most time on that one. Once I heard about the third, I eagerly awaited it and bought it as soon as it hit shelves. A lot of people seemed to be disappointed with the third installment, but I spent many sleepless nights playing it, and I still enjoy playing it to this day.
So, Facepunch, how addicted are you to this series?
:byodood: THE MEMORIES!
Loved the first one, played it to death.
The greatest game of my childhood ever.
I remember spending hours upon hours on my shitty Windows 95 Playing the first one making massive parks and continuing gameplay even after I beat each scenario.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and 3 only progressed everything.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 refuses to save on Windows XP. For me and my friends, anyway :(
RCT1 doesn't work on Windows 7 properly, bugga. Atleast I have the other two.

Same, I can't load saves, I can play, but I have to beat it in one sitting, saves crash the damn thing.
Maybe you guys should buy a valid version besides pirating then.
:colbert:
Too bad Atari fucked with Chris Sawyer. Well, we can dream.
I remember my grandmom gave me this for christmas, and my old 40MHz PC could play it well.
It was the best game I have ever played, and the most addictive too.
A few weeks ago, my sister brought home roller coaster 3, and we both had huge nostalgia.
Great game. :buddy:
If only RCT3 was compatible with the Novint Falcon
I remember coming home when I was just 8 and seeing my Mum playing this, I was addicted to it for like 4 months and I've always been thinking of ideas for roller coasters since + regularly having sessions on it
where is the nostalgia rating
I just nostalgia'd, so I had to go play, still fun as hell, I have all 3 and decided to play the best one RCT2:TTP
RCT2 was the shit, but I liked RCT3 too.
It was fun modding the shit out of it to make crazy rides.
Like this, I made it for a noob competition on the Atari forums like 2 years ago, and won.

If only I had this ride on my Current computer, then I would've made a better video.
My norwegian cousin had the original RCT when I was a kid. I played it and I got so totally into it; I was in the RTC zone, man, shit was zen! My aunt apparently yelled at me and I literally didn't hear a god damned thing because of how fucking engrossive the game was. Naturally I wished for it for my next birthday. Imagine my glee when I recieved not only Roller Coaster Tycoon, but the Loopy Landscapes expansion too!! That was awesome. I'd always play the 'Arid Hights' map (anyone remember that) because you don't need money- you have to keep guests' happiness above 700 constantly instead. Love that one.
I gave RCT2 a miss for financial reasons.
Got RCT3 and love it. Wanna get Soaked, but for some reason I've never got round to it.
God damn I love this series.
he made Transport Tycoon, not OpenTTD
This game is my childhood
BRB resinstalling
In roller coaster 1 at the first desert scenario, i had 74 million dollar.
so i spend it on making the biggest roller coaster i could make.
nobody liked it, because they are a bunch of coward
When i tried RC3, i never really liked it.

I personally like the isometric RCT1 & RCT2 better then the 3d graphics of RCT3.
Nobody would ever ride my roller coasters. I think it's because most of them hit 9+ G's and top speeds well over 80 MPH, though.
Man I love these games. Much better than all those shit Tycoon games like Mall Tycoon and School Tycoon.
Holy shit I used to play RCT 1 and 2 as a kid all the time, oh god I've gotta reinstall it.
I used to make enormous roller coasters that went 50 feet into the air and violently dropped, which would send the passengers flying into my park in a messy explosion. Nobody went on that coaster anymore after it killed about 20 people.
I've been playing RCT2 lately. I still think RCT1 with LL is the best of the entire series. RCT1 had far more parks and less Six Flags tie-ins.
I might put it back in after finals.
I loved making coasters that would fling people into the water so they eventually drown.
I love RCT2 and RCT3.
Made this a while ago:

72G's.
I hate how I would make the coolest roller coaster ever and people were to afraid to go on it, not very realistic.
I used to play this game for hours a day. I once made a ride that cost $2M, rode for 20 minutes and filled up half the park.
Rolleroaster Tycoon 1 is part of my childhood. 'Nuff said.
I like to make floorless roller coasters that twist together, like one track makes a loop then the other track goes through the loop.
[editline]dsdfg[/editline]
If I made an awesome roller coaster with a high intensity rating and nobody would go on it, I used a cheat to force everyone to go on every ride before they left.
Many memories of the first RCT. I would hate it when I spent ages on a rollercoaster and the intensity rating would be ultra-extreme so no one would go on it.
