• The Portal Conspiracy - a theory.

Hello there - It's me, Ezerith. Now that we have that cleared up, let's not state the obvious, 'kay? Moderators - feel free to ban me. I'll be back in a second. So I've been think about the whole valve conspiracy thingy, and this is my final theory: GlaDOS mentions during the last fight that she has you brain backed up in case something terrible happens - but she deletes it. The "backed up" thing could be a hint that the Chell we play as is a clone. And that last clone we play as wins the final battle, which GlaDOS is not really prepared for. (older clones have lost the final battle and/or became crazy - the "Ratman"!) In the first, original and NON-updated game nothing happened after the ending. The scene just toned out. The first update contained the radios. The second contained a new ending. I say the radios don't only ACCEPT signals. They also send them. GlaDOS does not necessarily have to be the ONLY living being on the facility. As we all know by know the robot that fetches you ALSO exists. My guess is (from the memorandums off the BSS that tells us Cave is an undead android) is that the robot that fetches you is Cave Johnsson. And during the first non-updated game he might not have "activated". But during the second update, we placed out the radios and sent signals to start him. GlaDOS noticed this, and as a last resort she told the robot to go fetch you, and force you back into the Facility. (For those of you who will complain about Cave having a southern accent - COME ON, HE'S A ROBOT! WHAT in the world binds a voice synthesis to sound JUST the person it belongs too?) From a bunch of ASCII images we can state that one shows a portal opening, and one possibly being Chell dragged away through the rubble. There is also, most noticeable, TWO robots in one of the ASCII art - but only one fetches you. I do NOT think it is the Portal-gun robot, but in fact the one next to that. Why? Because that one has noticeable claws. It also fits better to the ASCII art of Chell being dragged away. Now, another thing: The second robot, the one with the Portal-gun, might ALSO have been in a sleep-state. But that robot was reserved for GlaDOS, where she could be backed up (the "Still alive"-song fits good). While activating Cave, she also activates her mobile unit counterpart, and starts moving freely together with Cave. But by the time Cave arrives to you, GlaDOS just started moving (hence why she is not in the cut-scene with Cave). Two robots. One per important asset of the facility. Cave Johnsson and GlaDOS. It's bound to be some kind of companionship. ALSO, the backup that many of us talk about (the one that we suppose is on Borealis) might as well be the robot reserved for GlaDOS in the facility. Something that backs my theory up is the fact that on the flashing picture slideshow at GlaDOS, there are pictures of war veterans and other war-related stuff. GlaDOS couldn't possibly have been part of any of that. Only way she could have those images - those memories - would be if she had the brain of a war veteran backed up. Cave Johnssons! And the flashing pictures of cows could point to more evidence of my theory. Cave is supposed to had a southern accent before his death. Now southern parts of the US = farms (You know. Horses, cows, blablabla). Farm = cows. The cows flashing by are parts of Cave's memory = GlaDOS has his brain backed up! The ASCII art of a portal opening and one/two robots running through could be the companionship between GlaDOS and Cave. And the BBS login and password "backup" might also have been what "set off" the whole thing. Who knows - maybe WE were the ones who activated Cave Johnsson and GlaDOS backup body? That is just my two cents. I hope you enjoyed reading. (User was banned for this post ("Missed the sticky" - SteveUK))
Why must everyone say "That is just my two cents". But anyway, that sounds....very believable.
You know, we have a third thread about this running already, maybe catch it.

As you know, it was an experiment, and it would have been very optimistic to make ready for a sequel already. The slideshow could just be random images, and like neither you or your computer has been in a war, your computer can still show pictures from a war. And if they had it all planned out, why would they add the new ending now? As I see it, the new ending is a way of patching the game together with the (hopefully upcoming) sequel. Not too elegant, but combined with the whole dinosaur thing, acceptable.
