I got hacked, and met one of the nicest people I've ever met in game.

So, as the title says, I was hacked. Only, it turns out I was hacked early january. after christmas I decided to take a break from the game, and in the last month of that sub they must have swooped in and hacked me. I found all this out yesterday, so like any normal person I sent a message to the GM's about it. They return telling me that their data banks are purged every few months and they have no way of tracking all the items I'd lost. so there I stand, no armour, no weapons, no gold to buy any of this. At this point I was seriously considering just uninstalling the game and putting it away permanently.
Now here is where the story takes an interesting turn. wandering stormwind in my underpants, I checked my bank finding that whoever hacked me had left some shitty clutter and a four of beasts card. I decided to try and sell this to help pay towards a weapon or something, so I went outside and started offering it in trade channel. A character messaged me asking
"why are you selling that in trade channel? you may as well auction house it"
"I can't afford an auction." I replied
"why not?"
"I got hacked, this card is pretty much all I have to my name"
at this point I figured whoever this was would just assume I was lying. However, after finding me and realising that I was telling the truth, this person offered to find me some old gear I could use in their bank. I thanked them about a hundred times after that, I was over the moon that I'd be getting some armour back. They came back with some boots, a two handed hammer, and leg armour. once again I hit them with a wave of thank you's, only for them to run off into the night and return with more gear, basically giving me gear for every slot as well as a pretty decent bow. It was only after I had put all this on that I found out they had bought the rest of the gear from the auction house, and they then proceeded to hand me 20 gold to buy some arrows. When I offered to repay them as soon as I could, they laughed it off and said they were switching faction so I wouldn't be able to, but not to worry about it. they also gave me the name of one of their alts in case I ever need anything again.
Maybe it was just me, but my general consensus of most world of warcraft players was that they were mainly interested in their own affairs, and will only help out friends or guild-mates if it is completely necessary. But here this person is giving a whole set of level 77 armour that is pretty good to a complete stranger, even though I could have just been scamming them. To them it probably seemed like nothing, and I guess it probably was barely anything to a level 80, But for me, it was literally the turning point over whether I quit WoW permanently or not. Now I may have very little gold and this gear may not suit my spec amazingly, but I have been given a second chance in this game, which I could not thank the person enough for. The worst thing though, is I know I probably never would have done something like what they did if it was me in their shoes in the past.
I suppose people may not care, but I needed to tell somebody about this, as it has renewed my faith in the world of warcraft community. It may have been a complete one-off, but as long as there is one person as chill as that in game, I am happy
There are so many pricks on WoW it's making the people that are nice stop being nice.
Also, what server was this on?

Kul tiras, and yea I do agree that there are a large amount of assholes in game, which made it so much better to meet this person who was willing to help a complete stranger. I am going to find a way to pay them back, no matter how hard
I've actually done something like this before, I actually queue'd a friend as a tank so he could get some gear. Most people would want to kick him, but I would stay in combat, not allowing them too. He got geared up in about 3-4 days enough that he could start doing his own thing, as he slowly gained his gold back.

I salute you sir :P.. it's nice to see that WoW isn't full of 12 year olds who shit on everyone.
I help as much as I can too, for example, our tank once got bashed on for having terrible gear, but I knew he was trying his best, once he quit when the comments got too much, I was the makeshift tank and after the last boss I whispered him, lucky enough he was on my realm, I gave him some info on tanking and eventually just gave him money and told him to buy this and that to tank better, and now he's pretty good, invited him to my guild, and now he comes with almost every dungeon.

I play on KT and normally everyone is pretty nice on there. You will find the occasional asshole, but what server doesn't?
I'm happy for you dude, good to see you still play after all that.
Good story. I don't consider myself an asshole but i wouldn't throw down a considerable amount of gold for a random person that i just met in trade :/
I used to be a nice guy, helping out noobs, giving gold to beggars aswell as advice not to spam people. Etc. But I've found over the years, it's not really worth it, people now a days are so ungratefull. And there's only a handfull of people who will actually thank you for being kind, because their attitude is "It's a game, why the fuck do I care if this guy is nice or not"
Good story mate, you were really lucky. There aren't alot of nice people left today.
I don't find myself being nice so much anymore, it's just when I feel like it..
:3:
I usually give money to those who need it.. never if they say
"CAN U GIVE ME GOLD I GOT HACKD SO I NEED THE GOLD PLS
Nice story dude! Its good to see that some people have the decency to help out other players. And here I just give out free ports to whoever needs them.
Yeah ports I give out free aswell on my mage.. I hate the fact I cant find a single mage who doesnt charge me 20g+ to port me to dala tho.. I'd rather take the zepp just so I wont give them the pleasure

Yea, I know what you mean. I see someone in trade saying "Selling ports 5G each!" and I purposely go on my Mage just to say "Selling ports Zero Gold each!" and port like 10 different people and then just log off. Its kinda dick move, I know, but seriously...
I don't see what's wrong with 5g for a portal.
It's standard price, almost everyone except <40's doesn't mind paying it, it's a fair price for having me do stuff.

That's an anti-dick move.
A dick move is when I offer people free summons to Dalaran and do it off the edge of the city.
Also I would have given the OP some gold. I'm not a prick all the way through.

it should be free
I always try to help people with spec and gear/stat choices, but they usually tell me to fuck off.
for example I had a random dungeon with a leveling DK a few weeks ago. he was wearing spell power plate. I wispered him saying "you're a DK, you don't need spell power" - to which he replied "I have SPELLS in my SPELLBOOK don't I, you nub"

Should've Replied back with.
"Well, If anything goes in the spell book, Then why are Warrior abilities in there and you don't see them walking around with Spell power plate?"
Good story. I also relized that many people are grateful. One time some guy in my guild got hacked and I spent 2kg and 2 days helping them get geared enough for 80 stuff. Then he told me to "l2p a paladin, that I was Terribad at it, and that I was a dick. Then he faction changed. I gank him all the time on my 77 Mage.

There are a lot of pricks in World of Warcraft, but there are some very kind players out there as well, you just need to find the right people.
when i was hacked i was really pissed off, my rogue got left with nothing, my girlfriend at the time ran off to the AH and bough me a set of gear so we could continue doing heroics, whenever i see someone hacked that looks genuine, i try my best to help em out, nothing worse than the time between being naked and getting your gear back.
