Why the fuck is every single new game (2010,2009,2008etc) requires the best PC up to date?

Why?
I mean fuck, think about the ones that can't afford a PC.
Too many good games, all of them needing a PC.
Right,so I am on a pretty low budget PC.What the fuck does it cost to lower the model graphics to something like HL2 graphics?
What the fuck does it cost to remove a couple of goddamn shadows in a goddamn game?
Fuck,it has to be the hardest thing ever in the fucking world, because I can't play any of the new good fucking games.
Left 4 Dead,AVP,Crysis,etc.
Atleast I can fucking play Killing Floor for fucks sakes.
Dear god,I would love to play GTA 4 on a goddamn first person mod with all my shitty graphics,I just want to play the game before I fucking drop dead for fucks sakes.
/rant ?
Get a job

Mow some lawns.
This is indeed an issue with the PC gaming world. People are pushing the envelope with technology, forgetting that not everyone can afford to shell out on a new improved supercomputer every year or two, especially with the current economic slump. It's things like this that kinda isolates a portion of the target market.
But hey, at least the past still has some awesome games. Deus Ex is almost a decade old, and it still shines brightly despite the low graphics (compared to now, at least). Diablo 2 don't even require 3d rendering, and it's still one of the best hack 'n' slash dungeon crawlers of the 2000's.
All in all, the maxed-outness of recent modern video games is an issue for PC's, but at least we still have old classics that rival, if not outshine, some of the modern releases.
They don't. You can play plenty of games with a 3 year outdated good machine, or recent mainstream machines. The games that don't play on those ore mostly half assed console ports.
Well if you see it from the developers point of view:
- There's more challenge in making better graphics, so they'll get more experienced than if they just kept making the same old graphics again and again.
- With better graphics, you can sell it at a higher price and to more people.. In theory.
- To stop developing would be stupid, why would you willingly want to put your life as a DEVELOPER on a halt?
The world keeps evolving, are you suggesting everyone should slow down because you can't keep up?
I know it's pricey, but don't expect that from anyone.
They don't. My rigs at least 3 years old now and I run everything on high-medium.
My computer is OLD, 4 years, but I'm able to play ALL games on the highest, except GTA IV and Crysis, those are a mix of mostly highest and the setting just under the highest.
The only 'new' thing in my computer is my graphics card, which is a Nvidia 8800GT, so if you ask me, it's not like you have to buy a new computer quite often to be able to keep up with games..
I max out everything on a laptop.
Sorry your parents don't have enough money to buy a computer for you.
My computer is ancient and i'm running everything fine on minimum / sometimes medium...
My computer is quite old now, but it can still play borderlands on high so im happy.
To date, I've been through two computers; the second being my current one now.
My first, "proper," computer was one with a Radeon X300 (which I later upgraded to a 7600GT), Pentium 4, 1GB of RAM and a 70GB HDD.
The one I am current using initially had a 8600GS, Q6600, 2GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD. Now, it's on a new PSU, a GTS 250, 4GB of RAM and an additional 1TB HDD.
So yes, I agree it can come up to a whole lot of cash which you may not have and not to mention all the items in-between; such as, mice, keyboard, new operating systems, monitors, speakers etc.
What? Most new games don't require a good PC at all because they're designed from the ground up for the Xbox 360. The only things that have come out recently I have trouble running on all highest settings are ARMA 2, GTAIV and S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and that's only because they're horribly optimised.
Get a job or buy an Xbox.

I had the same exact computer
let me guess, it was a bitch downloading 15 + gig game

Pentium 4, welcome to 10 years ago
also GTS 250
x50x series of GeForce are never good, GTS can be summarized as "Gay, Trash, Shit"
I only have issues when a game requires a dual core cpu which as of late has been nearly every single game.
I'm not complaining though since most of those games are the type that you play for a few hours and then never touch ever again.(Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 2, Prototype, etc)
Going to be upgrading next month anyways.
There's always the option to put it all on low graphics, I don't see how that's a problem.

If you don't have a dual core by now then you're running ancient technology.
We've hit a graphical wall ever since Crysis came out, where console games are only just now starting to pull the polygons CryEngine2 does, while PC games kind of flounder at this point where software can't manage to push much farther. CryEngine3 doesn't even make many serious graphical inroads besides some hefty optimization for the consoles.
If anything, take comfort in the fact that hardware is pushing forward relentlessly, making most games that come out today playable at screaming framerates.

I have a quad core.

:smug:
Gaming is an expensive hobby, if you can't afford it then find something else to do until you can get a job.
Games use the latest graphical technology for a good reason: It wont sell otherwise. Or well it might, if it's an epically good game but developers can't take that risk these days.
There's always underdog budget hardware out there. You just need to look hard enough.
Under $400 for my PC, and GTA4 plays perfectly fine after some minor tweaking. Using an hd4670 , phenom x2 545, 2gb ram
If you're that frustrated with your old PC, do something about it
It's for the economy. Why else would you buy a new computer if not for gaming.
I bet people who need it for graphical work are less than one percent and they even have their own type of hardware.
For office applications even a 5 year old PC is good enough.
Oh and by now it's graphic whoring, people care for the looks more than for the actual game.

Yes my first computer was old and at least the GTS 250 is a damn sight better than the shit 8600GS I had before.
itt: fuck you for not making crysis run on windows 95 i'm going to go be a communist
A PC worth a mere $600 these days can run any game on the market
Just go AMD for a budget quad-core and motherboard, get a $40 case, some ATI card, and 4GB of RAM and you have a cheap gaming computer able to run nearly everything on higher settings
Prices to game are actually going down these days quite a bit if you know where to look
You don't need to play games on highest settings, you know? But if you want to, stop crying and save up for some better hardware. And don't expect a 10 year old computer to run the latest games, it simply won't. Technology advances fast, deal with it.

I just never felt the need to upgrade since I've been able to run everything before games like Lost Planet and Assassin's Creed came to the PC.
Plus I'm really not the most tech savvy person so I didn't know how to properly upgrade but I had a friend hook me up with a cost efficient PC on Newegg and I'll be buying it once I get my next paycheck.
My comp is 3 years old and it can run a lot of things.
