Outer Heaven Uprising - 1995
200 km north of the region of Galzburg, South Africa, lay the fortress of Outer Heaven, a fortified state that had been founded by a legendary mercenary in the late 1980s. Within 15 years, he western world had received intelligence that warned of a weapon of mass destruction that was supposedly being constructed deep within the fortress. High-tech Special Forces unit FOXHOUND, commanded by the legendary soldier Big Boss, sent their best agent, Gray Fox to infiltrate the stronghold. However, days later, contact with Gray Fox was lost, his final transmission consisting only of two words: "METAL GEAR..."
With the goal of rescuing Gray Fox and uncovering the meaning of the cryptic message, rookie operative Solid Snake is sent into Outer Heaven alone.

The Zanzibar Land Disturbance - 1999
The Cold War had thawed, and it seemed nuclear proliferation would soon be a thing of the past. Despite this, all was not well in the world. A series of shocks to the oil market spurred the development of new high-tech energy sources, including fusion power. However, most vehicles still relied on oil for power. Oil reserves were at a critical low, and the world community was prepared to take drastic measures, either by drilling into sand and shale for more oil, despite the difficulty -- or moving on to renewable fuels.
Such steps proved unnecessary when Czech scientist, Dr. Kio Marv, successfully bio-engineered a new species of algae, OILIX, that could produce petroleum-grade hydrocarbons with little expense and effort. Marv presented the algae to the World Energy Conference in Prague, and was on his way to a demonstration in the United States when he was kidnapped by soldiers from Zanzibar Land. NATO discovers that Zanzibar Land's leaders plan to hold the world hostage by controlling the supply of oil, and some good old-fashioned nuclear brinkmanship, courtesy of a stockpile of nukes. Solid Snake is then brought out of retirement by FOXHOUND's new commander, Roy Campbell, and is sent to Zanzibar Land to rescue Dr. Marv.

Shadow Moses Incident - 2005
The night before the signing of the START III Accord, a nuclear weapons facility on Shadow Moses Island, off the coast of Alaska, was captured by Next-Generation Special Forces, led by members of FOXHOUND. Under the command of Liquid Snake, FOXHOUND and the NGSF formed the Sons of Big Boss, and initiated an armed revolt against the United States Government. In addition, they also held hostages on the island, including the DARPA Chief Donald Anderson and ArmsTech President Kenneth Baker, both of whom also carried the PAL override codes.
Threatening the White House with a nuclear strike, the Sons of Big Boss demanded that the government hand over the remains of Big Boss, giving them a deadline of 24 hours. In addition, the Sons of Big Boss, to prove that they weren't bluffing about their capability of supplying a nuclear strike, also supplied the serial number to the U.S. Government. The Genome Soldiers of the NGSF had been subject to advanced gene therapy, involving the use of Big Boss's "soldier genes" to enhance their combat skills and senses. Big Boss's DNA was considered to be a priceless treasure to the U.S. military, and the government could not allow it fall into the wrong hands.

Manhattan Tanker Incident / Big Shell Incident - 2007~2009
After the Shadow Moses incident, technological data on the nuclear-armed walking tank Metal Gear leaks onto the black market. Solid Snake and his allies form the anti-Metal Gear NGO "Philanthropy" and set out in pursuit of a tanker carrying a new Metal Gear prototype. But Snake falls into a trap set by former FOXHOUND member Ocelot, and is believed lost along with the tanker at the bottom of the Hudson River. Two years later, the Big Shell, an oil spill cleanup facility constructed on the bay, is taken over by terrorists led by a man claiming to be the long-lost Solid Snake. The government sends Raiden, a new recruit in the new FOXHOUND, to infiltrate the Big Shell and rescue the US President, who is held hostage inside... The underlying theme of this second entry in the series is "memes," or cultural genes.

Virtuous Mission / Operation Snake Eater - 1964
The story shifts back in time to 1964, the height of the Cold War. Naked Snake-the man who would later become the legendary mercenary known as Big Boss-heads into Soviet territory to help the scientist Sokolov defect to the West. But the mission ends in failure due to the betrayal of Snake's mentor and mission advisor The Boss, a female soldier known as "the Mother of Special Forces." The Boss defects to the Soviet Union, taking a miniature nuclear warhead with her as a gift, which her new hosts promptly launch at a Russian research facility. Naked Snake heads once more into the Soviet Union on a mission to kill The Boss... The third MGS game tells the story of men and women who struggle to remain loyal even while their fates are at the mercy of the ever changing political "scene."
Often considered the best game in the franchise, Metal Gear Solid 3 moves away from sneaking through buildings and focuses on the great outdoors. Instead of playing as Solid Snake, like in every other Metal Gear game, the game focuses on a previous villain in the series, Big Boss.

San Hieronymo Takeover - 1970
Six years after the events of Operation Snake Eater, Naked Snake's former team, FOX, has broken their allegiance with the CIA and gone renegade. Snake himself is also targeted by the FOX unit, which sent renegade FOX unit soldiers to attack and capture him. Snake is tortured and interrogated by one of the members of FOX, Lieutenant Cunningham, who's trying to locate the whereabouts of the missing half of the Philosophers' Legacy, with the United States Government having already acquired the other half of the Legacy from the Soviet Union at the conclusion of Operation Snake Eater. Snake is imprisoned in a cell next to Roy Campbell, the sole survivor of an American Green Beret team sent in to investigate the base. Snake learns through Campbell that they're on the San Hieronymo Peninsula, the site of an abandoned Soviet missile silo in Colombia.
The two escape and Snake makes his way to a communications base, where he attempts to contact his old CO, Major Zero. Instead, he is greeted by his old FOX comrades Para-Medic and Sigint, who reveal that Snake and Zero are being accused of instigating the revolt and that the only way for Snake to clear their name is to find and apprehend the leader of the rebellion, Gene. To complicate matters, Gene has also convinced most of the Russian soldiers stationed on the base to join their side by simply taking over the chain of command of a former Red Army unit, that was secretly stationed inside the Colombian territory. In order to complete his mission, Snake must persuade enemy soldiers to join his ranks.

Ocelot's Insurrection - 2014
The world is in chaos, and the "war economy" has plunged the world into never-ending battle. This fuels the need for private military companies, the five largest of which (together rivaling the power of the entire United States Army) are owned by a single mother company, Outer Heaven, with Liquid Ocelot at the helm. Liquid Ocelot, a fusion of the consciousness of Liquid Snake and the body of Revolver Ocelot, is once again set on world domination and Solid Snake, now suffering advanced accelerated aging and under the codename of "Old Snake", is dispatched as a personal favor to Roy Campbell to assassinate him.

Peace Walker Incident - 1974
Stories tell of a legendary solider who once waged war against the world. His name was Naked Snake, a.k.a. Big Boss, and the truth behind this legend will finally be told. The era is the 1970's . Big Boss had stationed his soldiers in Colombia, South America, where he was approached by visitors from Costa Rica, a "nation without a military." In the shadow of the Cuban Missile Crisis, as Latin America became a key to maintaining the power balance between East and West, Costa Rica had miraculously managed to maintain its peace and neutrality. However, in various regions of the country, a mysterious armed force seemed to be engaging in suspicious activities. Now, to preserve peace in this nation without a military, the soldiers move into action. In time, they would be known as the founders of "Outer Heaven."
Main-Ops
The Main-Ops section is composed of a ton of missions that involve the Peace Walker incident, as well as Big Boss' growth as a leader. You can play as Big Boss or any of your soldiers for most of the missions, but certain missions require that you play as Big Boss. There's some story nonsense above if you feel the need to read about it.
Story Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikjpRuhfH6s
Co-Ops
Peace Walker is the first Metal Gear Solid game to have co-op play, and it is very well done. You can co-op on just about any mission, and there are a lot of new items to use for co-op, such as the Box Tank and the Co-op Gun. Boss fights are incredibly intense with four players, and sneaking with two players is a unique experience.
Co-Ops Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlpH_I4DTLk
Extra Ops
Peace Walker boasts hundreds of extra missions. A lot of these missions are crazy minigames that make no sense, while there are tons of mission that test your aim or your stealth. Some of the missions outright explain things going on the story mode. At any rate, Extra Ops was built for co-op play. You can, of course, solo many of the missions, but there will be a point where you'll be begging for a co-op buddy.
Extra Ops Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbinrD_1_qI
Versus Ops
This is the competitive side to Peace Walker. It's a lot of fun, and I'd be up for a Facepunch game. There's a variety of gamemodes, mostly borrowed from MGO.
NEW GAME - METAL GEAR SOLID: GROUND ZEROES

Set somewhere between the Peace Walker incident and the Outer Heaven Uprising, this title is to be an open-world game featuring at least Big Boss as a playable character. Not much story or gameplay information is known at this time.

Really man? That's the easiest boss fight! Just Parry all of his moves. [sp]That's kind of what that fight is suppose to teach you, how to parry[/sp]
As someone who loves the MGS series and someone who enjoyed Bayonetta very much, the obvious answer seems to be "get Revengeance", but I wanted to get your opinions. And in the PS3 does it suffer from the horrible load times of Bayonetta? I don't want to spend hours just waiting for the fucking weapons menu to load.
(And is the storyline anywhere as important or in depth as the older games?)

Revengeance on the PS3 doesn't have as good of a FPS as the Xbox 360 version but you're only mission out on like 5 frames I think. The Xbox 360 version has screen tearing I think.
Here's something pretty funny:
[thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/REVENGEANCE.jpg[/thumb]
S-ranked every battle upto Monsoon on Hard, got knicked at the very end by an attack, and the fucker autosaved on the finale, so I have to go back through the entire level now.

I don't understand the no checkpoints thing. If you fail, you just start the fight over. The game auto-saves everything at certain points by default.
As far as Blade Wolf, I had the same problem at first. The entire point of that fight is to teach you how to parry because you will have a hell of a time the rest of the game without parrying. I'm pretty sure there would be impossible areas to complete if you didn't know how to parry properly. I suggest doing the tutorial again and pay attention to the parrying section. Once you do that, Blade Wolf is a cake walk.
Anyone know which music is played when Raiden is all emotionally unstable and can't fight for shit near the end of chapter 3? The OST doesn't have it unfortunately.
Speaking of OST, I wish they'd make an OST of all the games in 1 disc. I'd buy that shit right out
Speaking of OST, I wish they'd make an OST of all the games in 1 disc. I'd buy that shit right out
They can barely fit one game's music on one disc, there's no way they can fit all of them.

Blu-ray?
It would be the first OST to be released only on Blu-ray. :v:

I haven't seen anyone with it. I'm just waiting for DarkZero135 to change his avatar so I can use it!. Best grin ever.
Funny story though: My friend, who is familiar with Metal Gear, came over and sat down right as the cutscene before the Armstrong fight started. This was his first time seeing anything from Rising, and right after Armstrong says, "Don't fuck with this senator!" my friend goes, "You know, I don't know what has been going on this whole game, but I want that guy to win."
gosh lemme tell you peace walker's out ops sure can be annoying sometimes like when all my stupid dudes ignore the one enemy with a law that's blowing up all my tanks (which arent attacking the guy with the law either (or even using their damn cannons)) turning a battle that should be a walk in the park into a bloodbath resulting in every single dude of mine but one injured. i dont like it when my dudes get injured. i really dont like it when my tanks get blown up either. those dumb little extra missions stir more emotion (anger) in me than anything else in the game.
I got Rising yesterday.
I started playing on Hard.
Got through the game with mostly no troubles (the only hiccups were Sundowner and Sam, since I didn't have any nanorations)
Now I got to the final boss.
I'm fucked.

Use the dodge attack a lot. Parrying just doesn't seem as effective as it does in other boss fights.

I've been doing that, but I can barely get him down to 120% before I die.
He kills me in like 4 hits.
Would be really useful if I had any nanorations :v:

You can redo a chapter and take the items with you back to chapter 7 if you're in need of items. Otherwise, keep trudging at it and the bastard'll go down eventually.

Went back to get some nanorations and beat him pretty quickly with the help of those.
Platinum sure know how to make epic bosses.

Just beat the final boss on Revengeance mode without ever being touched. Was the sickest shit ever, fighting it never gets old, for me atleast.
The music really takes these fights to the next level, the way it fades in and out with vocals and instruments is orgasmic when the time is right.

I got chills when that happened during the Monsoon battle. I was already super pumped, but when the vocals came in, I just couldn't handle it anymore.
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
Speaking of Monsoon, I fucking hate the level that comes right after that battle. It's where the camera issues really come into play. I just lost nearly two repair pastes just taking down a few guys, because I couldn't see what the fuck was happening. And the guy with the rocket launcher kept knocking me down.
Seriously, fuck rocket launchers.

Armstrong can be beaten on hard without taking damage. First, learn all of his attacks. Anytime he hits the ground you will just need to run around and dodge. When he glows yellow to charge, you need to jump over him twice. When he jumps up to throw things at you, dodge them, do not try to cut them. When he glows green, run behind him and blade mode the spot on his back. The rest of his physical attacks can be parried, which you want to try and do.
The other thing to remember, spam strong attacks on him. They do a very large amount of damage with the Murasama.
Seriously, fuck rocket launchers.
It would be neat if you could cut the rocket in mid-air when it zooms towards you
Assuming it doesn't blow up in your face
Also bought MGR earlier today, I hope it gets here tomorrow so I can play it all weekend
That fucking parry system aaaaaaaa
Those rocket guys give off a red dot just before they fire, so if you're looking out for them you can dodge out of the way even when they're off screen.
The soundtrack sure didn't hurt.
This reminds me, but i was reading the TV tropes fridge page of MGR, and they started pointing things out that pointed to Raiden becoming the new Big Boss, and comparing Rising to Peace Walker.
I heard somewhere that this theme is apparently a remix of the PW theme too.
raiden could never be big boss
he is too much of a raiden
Raiden could never be Big Boss.
His anime hair is too kawaii.
Those rocket guys give off a red dot just before they fire, so if you're looking out for them you can dodge out of the way even when they're off screen.
The real problem is when there's a rocket dude hanging back while you're taking care of three other guys with swords. Because it's really hard to break out of combat to run after the rocket guy. And if you don't focus on him, he'll just keep hitting you until you die/get instantly revived by your nanorepair paste.
Also, for added difficulty, I'm in a really shitty indoor level with bad camera angles. Fun!
