Deus Ex: Human Defiance is a(n) [sp]April Fools[/sp] game by Eidos Montreal. It's an 8-bit game following Adam Jensen.
Eidos-Montréal's Deus Ex: Human Revolution development team is one of the most dedicated crews in the industry... almost as dedicated as our fans. Listening to you guys is our top priority. When we started brainstorming for the future of the franchise, we wanted to give you Deus Ex as you've never seen it before. To create something new, edgy, unexpected. To take Adam Jensen to a whole new dimension. The second dimension. Introducing Deus Ex: Human Defiance, the first adventures of Adam Jensen in full, glorious 8-bit. Human Revolution brought about the cyber-Renaissance, Human Defiance marks the beginning of a Digital Golden Age. Human Revolution was all about triangles. Now we're doubling down, flipping one over and revelling at its brand new form: the square... the pixel. It's a natural evolution! This new format allows us to bring you the content from Deus Ex: Human Revolution that you always asked for.
http://www.deusex.com/humandefiance https://www.facebook.com/DeusEx I'll update the page once more info comes out.
Wait, I thought this was a movie? Or am I thinking of something else?
Commenters on facebook are saying that it's a movie, but the Deus Ex page responded to quite a few, saying 'It's a game'. Check it out.
Is it just me who can't access their facebook page? I'll put it in the megathread
The site that registered it was said as being related to movies and games, so it could be both.
I really hope this isn't some cruel April Fool's joke because the image looks awfully similar to Human Revolution...
I just hope it has something to do with Adam If it isn't a joke. [sp]I just... the "Panchaea falls into the ocean" ending just can't be canon I want Adam to be safe :([/sp]
I just hope it has something to do with Adam If it isn't a joke. [sp]I just... the "Panchaea falls into the ocean" ending just can't be canon I want Adam to be safe :([/sp]
[sp]Panchaea ocean fall for life, best ending.[/sp] Anyway. i wouldn't get my hopes up over this, it's not impossible that they'd announce something on april 1st but it's highly unlikely.
As far as I can tell this isn't an official Facebook page
It's their official facebook page.
I'm not even sure it IS a facebook page, I can't even access it
As far as I can tell this isn't an official Facebook page
Sources are confirming its the official Facebook page. But yeah.. 1st of April..
I'm not even sure it IS a facebook page, I can't even access it
Do you have a facebook account? You need one to access the page, that's the reason i can't see it.
So it was all just an April Fool's joke?
Just because there's an announcement on April 1st doesn't mean it's gonna be a joke. That would be a cruel joke.
Not only that, but wasn't the trademark registered some time ago?
Another thing, the background of the image is exactly the same as Human Revolution. So i would not think its a new game, more like a new DLC
This would be a very, very cruel joke. If it's a game I'll go mad although I'm disappointed they are most likely going with the gold theme again.
Not only that, but wasn't the trademark registered some time ago?
Yes the game is trademarked So it would be a expensive joke if it was a April Fools joke. [editline]31st March 2013[/editline] Also "Deus Ex: Human Defiance – first look at the FUTURE of Deus Ex unleashed TOMORROW!". Maybe its some presentation? Erh i don't fucking know i will just wait for tomorrow :v: [editline]31st March 2013[/editline] Thirdly, they are all registered under CBS Movies. A movie company
Deus Ex: Human Defiance Deus Ex: HD HD remake of the first game?
If it were a joke it would be a shitty PR stunt. Pretty sure it's gonna be an announcement of a new game, perhaps with a twist?
Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, respective director and co-writer of the upcoming Deus Ex movie, discuss plans to adapt the action/RPG series for the silver screen with CraveOnline. Here's a bit from Cargill answering how they plan to avoid the obvious trap that "basically every video game movie has sucked before." He replies: Yeah. Yeah, the chief philosophy is we’re not making a video game movie, we’re making a cyberpunk movie. We’ve taken a look at what’s worked in video games and what hasn’t, and really what we’ve broken down is what we think the audience really wants, [what] the audience that loves Deus Ex is going to want to see out of a Deus Ex movie. And it’s not a rehashing of the game. What they want to see is, they want to see elements of the game that they love, but they want to see things that they hadn’t quite seen in the game, that the game didn’t allow them to see. So it’s really allowed us to expand upon the things that happened in the game, and the game has such a great cinematic story to begin with that those elements are very easy to extract. But really, at its core, we just keep telling each other, “We’re not making a video game movie, we’re making a cyberpunk movie.” And Scott and I are such big cyberpunk fans from way back in the day that that just really charges us up. Because that’s what’s so great about Deus Ex to begin with, is it really gets cyberpunk. I Eidos Montreal really understood the nature of cyberpunk and made “the” cyberpunk game, and it is just fantastic, and we’ve just had a great time adapting it.
Yeah, an April fools would have to be witty. Just announcing a fake game would just be a super dickish move.
If it is indeed an april fools, it'll be along the lines of "Hey guys check out this fancy sequel we're making just kidding it's just a movie :)"
He said much more on his AMA on Reddit He even answered my questions - The movie WILL involve Adam Jensen and be a direct adaptation, involving all of the same characters and elements and environments. And the film will be about 2 hours long. He based it off the game in a way that you will recognize what happens when it happens, but at the same time it'll leave you on the edge. And its FULL of fan wank, mythology gags and in-jokes. The ending will also be good - they "determined it by finding the best one that fit the story" [sp]Please god no not Panchaea[/sp] And the Jensen of the movie will not be the Badass he is in the game - he must rely on others. He can't just go be a one-man army, he's not an expert assassin/hacker. "I never asked for this" WILL make an appearance in some form, if it doesn't get cut I hope they get Cassie to play Yelena, considering they look identical The tricky part for the adaptation would be the budget. How can they represent all the futuristic augmentations, weaponry, vehicles, AND the Hengsha Pangu all on one movie budget?
Not sure how to feel about it if it's a movie. So much can go wrong with it (same applies to a game but I trust them with that a bit more).
Eh, i'd probably say that special effects get cheaper as time goes by for movies. Only now everyone feels the need for better ones, so they end up spending more. Anyways. I hope this corrects my problems that i had with Human revolution A: the yellow tint B: The lack of mobility augs. Seriously, i want to jump twenty feet high and stick to walls like spiderman. c: The gameplay should be entirely first person. d: enemies should use their augs creatively too. and fuck the bosses. Actualy, mostly barrett, fuck barret extra hard, But i've always had a hatred for overly acrobatic enemies too. I WOULD have a hatred for that last guy, but i had a grenade launcher.
It's April's Fools.
Thirdly, they are all registered under CBS Movies. A movie company
No, it's not. The European trademark is under Square Enix. http://tmview.europa.eu/tmview/basicSearch.html?ST13=EM500000011605474 And so is the US one: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4006:uvw7hw.2.1 It's also listed as "Computer games software", confirming that it's not a movie. EDIT: The US link is broken, since their search works in a weird way. You'll have to go to TESS and look for it yourself now.
Fucking psyched. If it's a sequel to HR, it's a day 1 preorder for me.
Yellow tint and trench coats. I could shell out a couple more bucks for more of that.
Maybe they're gonna pull a reverse April-joke. Like, "lol guys you got pwned, this was just a joke". But THE JOKE IS THAT IT ISN'T A JOKE. GETTIDT?
