What is Warface?
Warface is a free to play multiplayer military shooter in a "near future" setting being developed by Crytek Kiev. The game is exclusive to the PC and is powered by CryEngine 3.
How is it like Battlefield?
It's class based and each class (except sniper of course) has a way to help teams mates directly. There's even a game mode similar to Rush.
How is it like Call of Duty?
The game lets you customize your weapons and gear to a level on par with CoD. Gunplay is very spammy when relying on hipfire, but aimed fire is accurate for the most part.
How is it like Crysis?
You can power slide and changing weapon attachments is as simple as hitting the C key while playing. No need to wait until you get out of game to change your loadout. It's also on CryEngine 3. (not sure if that counts)
How is it like Counter-Strike?
There is NO REGENERATING HEALTH and you also have an armor meter! The loadout system lets you equip many different grenades at the same time. There's even a game mode that's a near direct copy of Demolition.
What game modes are there?
There's two main types of game modes, Co-op and Versus. Co-op is divided into three missions: "Training" which is an easy mission with little to no reward, "Daily Mission" which changes every 24 hours with moderate difficulty and normal rewards, and "Double Reward" which is very difficult and obviously offers double the rewards. Completing "Daily Mission" and being in the top 10% of something (e.g. score, headshots, points) will reward you with special "Crown Points" in addition to XP and Weapon/Attachment/Cosmetic unlocks. More info on that below.
Versus has 4 game modes: Free For All where you kill everyone you see. Team Deathmatch where you kill everyone on the enemy team while helping supporting your team. "Storm" which is a mix of "Rush" from Battlefield, but plays a bit more like King of the Hill from various other FPS games. And finally "Plant the Bomb" which is almost a straight copy of "Demolition" from Counter-Strike or "Search and Destroy" from Call of Duty, and no you can't respawn.
Tell me more about these classes.
There are 4 classes: Rifleman, Medic, Engineer, and Sniper. Rifleman gets access to Assault Rifles and LMGs and an ammo resupply pack which you can use on either yourself or a friendly once an entire magazine has been used. Medic gets access to shotguns, a medkit, and a defibrillator. The medkit can be used on yourself or a friendly as soon as they lose a single point of health, the defib can only be used on friendlies and takes around 1 second to use. Engineer gets access to carbines, shortened assault rifles, SMGs, claymore mines, and an armor repair kit which can be used on yourself or a friendly as soon as they lose a single point of armor. Snipers get access to sniper rifles and marksman rifles... that's it. (don't play sniper)
Is this pay 2 win, or is it actually a fair business model?
It's actually kind of odd. It has currency you can earn in-game to buy unlocked things, and it has points you can purchase to use on obtaining unlocked things. But there's also "Crown Points" which can unlock special versions of guns/equipment that are straight upgrades of the normal versions. Luckily you can't use real money to get "Crown Points" as they are rewarded to people based on PvE performance.
Does this game implement that stupid "consumable" mechanic other F2P games do?
Yes, but not in a horrible way. There are free revives you can use in both PvE and PvP, specialized grenades you can buy that are consumed when thrown (default grenades don't go away), and unlocked weapons and cosmetics need to be "repaired" to prevent them from "breaking". You can do all of this with earned in-game currency, no need to spend money. They're also very cheap relative to how much you make an average game.
CryEngine 3? Well damn, I kinda wanted to try this out...
Don't worry, it's incredibly optimized for low end systems! I get 50-60 FPS on max settings with an Nvidia GTS 450 1GB, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz, and 3GB DDR3. And if your PC literally cannot run the game, GFACE will detect your network capabilities and stream the game to you at an appropriate quality. If you don't have windows, it'll also stream to you on Mac and Linux.
What's GFACE? Is it as bad as Battlelog/Origin?
GFACE is actually a social network owned by Crytek that's designed for PC gamers. It's not meant to replace or compete with Steam, nor is it trying to make you jump through hoops to get into your game. Warface is actually embedded into GFACE like a youtube video, letting you get in and out of the game very quickly. The social network elements of GFACE can be completely ignored if you want, just go to the site and load up the game if that's all you want to do. Crytek even plans on having some games support cross-platform play between PC and tablets/smartphones, where tablets and smartphones control a different aspect of the game (like this). If your friend doesn't have a GFACE account, you can still invite them to play using the "Guestplay" feature! Just send them a link and the game will instantly start to load for them. Sadly there is no way to get Steam overlay to work with Warface because the game's executable can only be launched from GFACE.

(if i got any info wrong, lemme know and i'll change it)
This sounds pretty cool.
Does the whole in-browser thing mean there is no downloading required? Or do you still have to get the base game on your computer first?
I spy A mech....
I would like to know more.
tbh looks like your typical technically competent but ultimately bland f2p fps
or is it actually good?

They're PvE bosses on the harder missions. Normal missions have a heavily armored dude with a minigun.

It's okay. It seems to be getting bashed around in F2P circles because it's not particularly interesting but what it does it does decently. Coop is an enjoyable but ultimately challengeless endeavor. PVP is an adequately put together culmination of every modern shooter trope in the last 10 years.
It's not awful, but not very good either.

PvP is lacking for the most part, though the Storm and Plant the Bomb modes offer some enjoyment.
PvE is awesome. I'd even go as far as calling it CoD meets L4D.
Yeah I actually think the PVE is the highpoint of the game. Maybe "challengeless" is the wrong word because the hard mission I played was rather difficult, it just doesn't have much staying power or variety because you are shooting bots. It could just be my opinion though, I know games like L4D and Killing Floor are wildly popular. If you like those with a modern combat, class based twist, Warface does it pretty well and there really isn't any other alternative.
Uh, I don't know what to say. Call it a bad first impression but I got into a match and I didn't see anything that hadn't been done before.
[editline]25th March 2013[/editline]
Not to mention there's a lot of design choices that I don't agree with.
[editline]25th March 2013[/editline]
It runs quite well though. My computer isn't too good anymore and I could get 60FPS on low (which still looks pretty good)
Alright, I'm starting to like it.
Mostly because it's the only CryEngine 3 game that runs on my computer at a playable 13 FPS.
applied for the beta. are people able to play it now?
Whenever I see this game mentioned all I think about is that hacking video the dude posted on here
applied for the beta. are people able to play it now?
Yeah. It downloads and sorta plays through the browser.
The in-game menus are in the browser but when you get into a game it turns full screen.

I don't think the game is meant to innovate, but it does take a lot of good ideas and put them together in a mostly coherent fashion.
My biggest issue with the game right now is lack of kill assists. It annoys me to no end when I shoot someone 3 times, and another person pops a random bullet into their head and I get no points.
What exactly don't you agree with?
I'm probably wrong on these points but this is what I didn't like:
1. The Shotgun being the Medic's weapon. You're vulnerable for quite awhile if you try to revive/heal someone. Having a short ranged weapon doesn't help cut back on your weaknesses.
2. Granted I only played TDM, what's the point of reviving? It's almost instant respawn and the map I played on wasn't even that big.
3. Fixed spawns. I always spawned in the same place which caused me to get spawn killed twice.
4. No zoom on Ironsights? Either that or it wasn't very much zoom.
Again this is what I gathered from one match so I'm probably wrong on most cases.
Bleh, I didn't like it at all.
The in-browser crap is a stupid gimmick and holy fuck gface is awful.
When I played it like 2 weeks ago after getting invited, it was laggy as fuck and the hit detection was god awful, which pretty much made it unplayable.
too bad it's shit, even if you exclude the browser shit.

Agreed on 1 and 3. As for 2, reviving is more rewarding for PvE than anything else and it can REALLY help your team in a game of Plant the Bomb seeing as there's no respawning in that game mode.
And 4, that's one of the downsides of ironsights. You get zoom from optics.
I got into the beta but I despise games that run through browsers. Just let me download it.
But you do download it.
But you do download it.
But you have to run it in the browser, it's not even like battlelog where it just launches the game - it literally runs IN the browser
4. No zoom on Ironsights? Either that or it wasn't very much zoom.
I see this as a good thing. Irons aren't magnified.
I see this as a good thing. Irons aren't magnified.
That is true, but a complete zero magnification at all makes no sense, as you move your head forwards towards the gun when aiming down the sights.
2 things that drive me mad is
1. the soldier ammo kits are LIMITED meaning if you and your squad runs all outta ammo in PvE you are fucked up
i was at the end of the whole mission that was god damm fucking intense and our soldier ran outta ammo kits, then we all ran outta ammo and you can guess the rest
and second weapon prices are huge as fuck and after you buy em you gotta keep "repairing them" over and over becouse of damm annoying degradation

I'm fine with no magnification on iron sights so long as it increases my accuracy. Dunno about anyone else...
Close your eyes and listen to the 1st trailer. Sounds like you are watching a Tribes:Ascend Trailer xD
