• The REAL story behind the Alpha soundtrack

Righto, I feel I should post this here, and pretty much anywhere where it might help clarify a few things. (Before I begin though, I'm going to add, I'm not here to condone the so called leak et cetera, I don't want anything to do with it, I only "leaked" these fake songs to Grigori,) For starters, for those that don't seem to have picked up on it, the whole "Alpha leak half-life 2 soundtrack" was fake. I "leaked" it myself by sending a user named "Father Grigori" the soundtrack a few years back and he, as well as some others, distributed it in their own version of the leak (which I think included some fixes, it was a grigori version of the leak) and am responsible, as it contains a whole variety of songs I've picked up from various places. Before you all jump up and down and go "lolban" and "gtfo", I'm going to post links to all the original songs. I'm doing this because I'm sick of seeing idiots post them on youtube and claim ownership to VALVe. One particular popular example is this "Path of the Borealis" song. Here's the "alpha" songlist and the real song for each one: Any track not listed is actually from Half-Life 2. Airex start by Viktor Antonov For a starters, I guess most people don't do their homework on VALVe, as Viktor is an artist and an artist only, not a composer. Kelly Bailey is VALVes composer. This song is a track from the BUILD Engine game known as Powerslave (or Exhumed in Europe/Australia et cetera). The original sound can be heard here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSEQijXt8s8&feature=related Citadel top (consul).mp3 Again, "by Viktor Antonov"... Viktor does not compose, he does art. This song is a track known as Trilogy, composed by Dan Wentz for Red Faction. You can download it here -> http://www.volitionwatch.com/interviews/dw_interview.php Docks.mp3 This is actually a real VALVe Song. It was used in one of their early E3 trailers. I don't recall whether it was the 2003 or 2002 trailer. Hl2.blendtest.mp3 This song is from an old game called Return to Zork. It is found on the CD as a removed track. It sounds like it was originally part of the credits. Hl2.devtrack.mp3 This is from Wayne Lytles "Animusic". The title is Future Retro. It can be watched here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ahoqR6OGdM Hl2.track3.mp3 Song from Resident Evil for Playstation 1. Hl2.track5.mp3 Another Resident Evil song. Hl2.track7.mp3 Laboratory music for Resident Evil. Hl2.track09.mp3 Whoa now this is an oldie. This is from Cocktel Visions "Lost in Time". A very old point and click adventure. Hl2.track10.mp3 Resident Evil 1 - Shark tank. Hl2.track16.mp3 This came from an old old copy of Fruityloops, possibly version 3. The title of the song escapes me, I think it was something like "Getting there" or "Halfway to somewhere..." or something basic. It's been so long. Hl2.track20.mp3 Return To Zork theme. Anyone veteran / 1990s gamers should recognize this. Hl2.track23.mp3 Doom song "Doomed E1L8 Boss" from OCremix. It can be downloaded here -> http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00231/ Route to C17.mp3 Clairvoyant Elegy remix from "Final Doom" from Ocremix. It can be downloaded here -> http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01285/ Path of Borealis.mp3 This is a song submitted by DJPretzel, artist name Dj Dain. The proper title is "That Long Train Ride", it can be found here -> http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2665 Barely any of these even have the same style as Half-Life 2 composer Kelly Baileys' work does. Not only that, but Viktor Antonov... just no. I'm only posting this because I feel bad that a lot of the original creators are losing praise and instead, everyone is just assuming valve churned out these titles when there is no sign of them in the original anon leak (I can't find any records of these songs prior to about 2007 when they were "leaked". I know most 13 year olds will still clap their hands to their ears and go "OMG WTF VALVe MADE THESE SCREW OFF THESE AREn'T FAKE" and then lobby to get me banned but still, I wanted to get this out because I'm actually getting a little annoyed at seeing these awesome songs put on youtube under different names, and I realize it's my fault and all. It might not be a convincing arguement on my behalf but I've told you the exact truth for anyone who is interested in listening.
Did you know that ValvE also used a few sentences from Alien when it was leaked.
Did you know that ValvE also used a few sentences from Alien when it was leaked.
To my knowledge, there were a few "borrowed" sounds they must have been using as temporary sounds etc. Perhaps it was part of an early conversation test map?
Perhaps it was part of an early conversation test map?
testroom_ripley in the WC mappack.
As a long time friend of Slik, I can confirm that he is indeed speaking the truth. I was an admin on the Father Grigori forums at the time Slik gave out the pack back in 2007 under the name Blackmantis, I already knew him very well back then and at the time even I didn't know the songs in the "Alpha soundtrack" were fake and/or Non-HL2 related. He told me a few months later however. I also confirmed that the other songs weren't all HL2 related using various resources, like a few of my friends. Either way, I agree that people using the fake title "Path of Borealis" for the song that's actually known best as "Triage at Dawn" is getting rather annoying and that it has to stop.
Oh man that blendtest mp3 really took me back...
Route to City 17 is one of my favorite songs of all time. So, it isn't really called that, is it? Well, thanks for telling us. I'm glad to know, actually.
I was there when it happened - really funny stuff. Aren't you the guy who is obsessed with the Cthulhu game?
Oh, no need to explain the thing about Kelly Bailey to me Silk. However, while I heard the other music before HL2, I just did not know the authors of it. It just sux though, I mean its just the fact about the false accreditation and phony game history placed on the music that was leaked out, because there are a bunch of kids who do not know and do not believe what the music originally is and where it really came from, and make CD's saying Victor did it. I have to wonder if these guys from these other, older, unrelated titles saw this, and took their anger on Victor because these kids and their typical rumor spreading, gave credit to the wrong person.
I was there when it happened - really funny stuff. Aren't you the guy who is obsessed with the Cthulhu game?
Yes, he is. (I'm just replying on his behalf since he's currently sleeping and will be offline for a while.)
I was there when it happened - really funny stuff. Aren't you the guy who is obsessed with the Cthulhu game?
Yeah that's me.
What about this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85fWecKSLQA is that real or fake?
What about this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85fWecKSLQA is that real or fake?
Yeah it's not an official valve song: Hl2.track16.mp3 This came from an old old copy of Fruityloops, possibly version 3. The title of the song escapes me, I think it was something like "Getting there" or "Halfway to somewhere..." or something basic. It's been so long.
