Disclaimer I'm surprised to have not found an active thread for this game. However my eyes may be deceiving me, despite the search function, and flipping through the pages. I'd like to be enlightened if I'm wrong. New To The Game?: Battlefield Bad Company 2 is an ambitious First Person Shooter title available for all current generation platforms save for the Wii. It introduces a Destruction System more dynamic and responsive then any title in it's genre. It's a technical achievement, bringing Frostbite to the PC platform for the first time, unleashing most of it's potential, albeit a few rough edges. It features almost all the things you'd expect from a Battlefield game, truncating and adding new things respectively. If you're new to Battlefield altogether, you should know that any game in the series has focus on teambased, and vehicular combat, something not common in the FPS market, at least in tandem. It's a convoluted title that can be very hard for new players to get into, but it's a rewarding experience with a stronger foundation of polish and balance then any of it's previous entries in the franchise upon release. Rough Bulleted Features?: - Vehicular Combat - Large Battlefields - Destruction System - Graphical Polish - Large Scale Combat - Rewarding Rank System - Equipment Variety - Etc.. Having Trouble Connecting on The PC Version?: You can thank Punkbuster for that. It's an anticheat system that boots for false positives, malfunctions frequently, hogs bandwidth with constant file structure integrity checks, and is an overall pain in the ass that PC gamers have endured with the Battlefield Series for years now. Unfortunately the Punkbuster client has to be updated manually with a proprietary client. You can download it from their website located here: http://box12.evenbalance.com/downloader/download.php However most of the problems are caused from the server side Punkbuster client, so the best option is to favorite servers that work for you, and frequently attempt connecting, or logging off and back into Bad Company 2. The key is simple persistence if you're having issues. Should I listen to the Modern Warfare 2 Killer Hype?: No you shouldn't, and you should stop talking about it as well. It's annoying to hear people compare two completely different games as if they can be objectively rated against each other. I prefer Bad Company 2, but that's because I have different preferences in online competitive First Person Shooters, which doesn't necessarily correlate with the preferences of others. This is a much more convoluted game, which is a benefit to some, and a problem for others. The only reason Dice and EA market it in such a way is because Modern Warfare 2 has a tremendous amount of sales, and a large userbase, and it's only natural that developers and publishers would seek to infringe on such a market. However the fanbase from Modern Warfare 2 is the reason why vehicles and kits are being downplayed in patches. We don't want to bridge these communities, trust me. Want to play with other Facepunchers?: Then post your platform and your respective handle. I don't approve of organizing tremendous lists of faceless names. Everyone would appreciate it if your post didn't only consist of your handle with no opinions or information pertaining to the thread other then that. Adding random people defeats the purpose of having people on your friends list. However this is a simple request and not an order which I have no authority to enforce. Having lag issues?: Try and use the server browser whenever possible, organized by low ping counts. If lag bothers you then you should choose servers with a maximum player count of 24 or less. Also limit the usage of VOIP if it becomes a severe issue, as it consumes bandwidth. This game has a tremendous amount of data being rebounded from your client and to the game server. Lag will always be prevalent so it's important to find ways to limit it as much as possible. Any Other Technical Issues?: Post about it and we'll try and help. Just remember that if people are responding to you, they're making an effort to extend their knowledge to you at their own convenience. So try and make the effort of organizing all relevant data in your first post before forcing us to ask you all information that may be the cause of the issue, that includes hardware specifications, operating system, including service pack and bit depth.
There is a thread in the actual Battlefield section
