To the Moon is an indie Adventure RPG, about two doctors traversing through the memories of a dying man to fulfill his last wish.
It was released last year, and was praised by almost everyone who played it. However, that's not too many, and that's one of the reasons I'm making this thread right now.
I'll let it speak for itself:
Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts have rather peculiar jobs:
They give people another chance to live. Literally.
There exists a technology that allows doctors to weave artificial memories, such that a patient can request attempts to alter their mind, and wake up with memories of things that didn’t actually happen.
However, since these new memories are permanent, the conflict between them and the existing authentic memories clash in such a way that it ceases the person’s ability to properly function.
Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives… but didn’t.
But creating a new memory is not as simple as pressing a button.
The technology requires the doctors to step into the memories of the patient, which are reconstructed as interactive scenes. The doctors then gradually traverse backwards through memories of the patient’s life until they reach childhood — at which point, the wish of the patient in present time would be transferred over.
Along with the doctors’ influence, the patient (as a child) could then lead an entire different life inside their head, working toward and fulfilling their dying wish themselves.
And if all goes well, they would wake up, having lived the dream life they never had, and embrace a brief moment of blissful fulfillment.
Shortly after, they’d draw their last breath.
Every once in a while, there comes a life that is rather peculiar.
This particular story follows Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts’ attempt to fulfill the dream of the dying elderly man, Johnny. In their mission to do so, they traverse backwards through the man’s memories, unfolding his curious life story before their eyes.
With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny’s past is revealed. And as the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.
And Johnny’s last wish is, of course… to go to the moon.
This is how it looks:

And this is the announcement trailer, but I would recommend not watching anything as it'll result in a better experience with the full game if you decide to buy it.

As this game wasn't played by as many as it deserves, I would just like to pull your attention to it. It's less than $10, and probably the only game that ever made me cry very unmanly tears. And a lot of them.
It lasted about 3.5 hours for me, and there's not much replay value, but it's without a shadow of a doubt worth the money.
It's out on Steam now!
Or you can buy it from the official site, where you can also try a 1-hour trial.
I love this story, and bought the soundtrack despite it being a separate purchase.
More people should experience this.

Worth mentioning is that when you buy the soundtrack, 50% of the money goes to charity for autism.
Art style looks really great.
For those of you that haven't played this game yet, do so as soon as you can.
It was my favourite game of 2011, an amazing experience. The music alone is enough to evoke tears, but the story is an amazingly simple yet beautiful journey through one mans life that never ceases to amaze.
[sp]Not to mention it is possibly the first installment of the franchise.[/sp]
This game is on sale right now on steam, so on a whim I picked it up.
Absolutely beautiful game. The story was amazing and it really connected with me.
This is an amazing game, since you're jumping though the memories of a dying man it's very emotional. It's one of those games where the least you know about it as you're about to play it the better.
Also the [sp]animorphs[/sp] question made me rage so hard, I had looked up the answer online by searching for the [sp]cover of the book that the question was about, & I saw a snake on the cover[/sp] but apparently that's the wrong answer.
So I spend about 20 minutes trying to figure it out & I eventually get the right answer, then I move on to talk to the next person in the room & she just gives you the answer, but what actually made me rage was the way she tells you, she says something along the lines of "Oh the answer's [sp]cobra[/sp], you could've just googled it you know"
But seriously anyone who hasn't played it should check it out & make sure you have tissues on stand by when you play it
Thanks to a raised phone bill I can't buy this game, even on the sale. I tried the demo, and I really want the full game. It's gotten so much praise.
I listened to the aoundtrack too. Absolutely beautiful.
Apparently you can't play the game without crying.
I've never played this but my Girlfriend has and she doesn't play many games... I was like "whaaaat"
I've played it tonight and holy shit what an experience.
So glad I got the soundtrack.

Saw Hamst3r's playthrough of it. Amazing soundtrack and story.
Their first names happen to be my first and last names :v
Strong feels in this game.
The description...
I can't play games that give me the feels like this...
I good friend of mine got the game + soundtrack for me.
So I played it...
Oh god... I cried...
[sp]The realization that the multicolored rabbit was the moon and stars... Understanding why River panicked when John threw the hacky sack... why the platypus was so important...[/sp]
Just... whoaw... All my feels.
[sp]And then the rage when Eva decided to be juridically right but morally wrong[/sp]
Just... game of the year.
Please.
Also where's Malvodion at? Was surprised to see him in the credits.
For those that own the game, and have experience in RMXP, you can decrypt the '.rgssad' file in the game directory.
It'll give you tilesets, graphics, maps - everything you need to basically make your own episodes with the same contents from the game, and observe how the game was made.
Maps are a bit hard to get working. You need to fiddle around to get them working. Here's how, though.
Just finished this game, and as someone who really gets into the story of the games they play, I was extremely teary-eyed and sniffley.
Well in case someone's not aware, until episode 2 to the To the Moon saga (I don't really know what the saga is going to be called), a shorter game is coming out called A bird story.

Can't wait for the next installments. Both Neil and Eva are really good characters and it's crazy they can go through with jobs like this.
