I have the latest patch.

Do you have any mods? Mods used to fuck shit up for me in terms of stability.

I use no mods.
First of all, check out on this site if your computer's configuration is good enough to make fallout 3 work.
If your computer does, update the game. If it still doesn't work, reinstall it. If your game is still an ass and doesn't want to stop crashing, throw your game away and download it on the internet, assuming you have the original game and a valid cdkey.
If your computer doesn't, try to use lower graphic settings, turn off anti-aliasing, this kind of things, and update the game. If it continues crashing, your computer is just too bad for the game.
Hope this helped you.

try this if u want. its only a fix, even though its meant for a pirated version. it fixed the crashes on my legal version, and other people say its helped them too. it'll either fix the crashes, or at a worst case scenario you'll have to reinstall and look for another way. it can take anything from about 15 mins to 6 hours for the fix to finish though.
I have not the original game, but cracked, ive updated it to 1.7 patch (latest), my specs are
2.1 Intel core 2 due
4 Gb ddr2
Ati Hd 4650 1gb
and enough space
but it still crashes like a dick D:
Mine crashes at random, which is why I stopped playing.

Buy the game.
I've got a bought copy which use to do this. I did more or less everything which z0nk3d has mentioned and it did make a difference but still had random crashes just not as often. When I went through the options I disabled auto save and it stopped crashing completely. didn't make sense to me why but it worked for me.
