So i got a small team (of mostly coders) and i got hit with an idea to make an RTS using the UDK. and i was wondering what you guys thought and if it had ever been done? i have see alot of Unreal mods out there and i love them but whats your thoughts on this?
Don't use acronyms before using the entire word/sentence, it confuses people. Also, go for it, it seems pretty cool.
If you think you can make it, sure, go ahead. I've always been interested in seeing an RTS made with the Unreal engine. I'll be looking forward hearing from you.
It can probably be done, it'll just take more time and effort. It's a very flexable engine.

Otherwise i retract my statement.
No, it wasn't. It uses the same (But Modified) engine DoW 1 uses which I'm pretty sure was proprietary.
So it seems. Thanks for correcting me.
Well thanks for the input my group was looking for something that was a little light on the Custom Content (like models) so i thought i could use the UT3 Models and shit and modify maps so work with this i also plan on implementing some unique features to the RTS genre (or at least new to me i don't play a lot of rts's {Warcraft, starcraft ect....)

Or do you have low poly versions?

Both the Squad leaders and commanders can play 1st person but as a commander if you die you dont come back and u loose. as for squad leaders when you die you Respawn at your respawners. Giving it the availability to cover all types of gameplay for all those who like to play. I would also like to set up a ranking system for players, a person would choose there class and then if they are successful as there role in that game they get points and ranks so if your jsut playing with random people you can all pick whose the best suited for the part [editline]04:01AM[/editline]
There is a project similar to this on the UDK forums, also this would go in the programming forums.
can u find a like for me then id like to check it out. i mean i plan to use the UT3 models and shit first but i would like so slowly move away from them into my own designs and make it a fully functioning stand alone game
You're UDK coders? I've been working on the art and design for Debauchery, a unique, stylish UDK mod, for the past year, and we're really in need of a programmer. http://moddb.com/mods/debauchery to see some of our progress and our design document. Please contact me if you're interested in joining a team of dedicated artists. All we need is a programmer to get this mod off the ground and encourage the other artists on the team to produce more work. I've got a really talented character artist but he's not going to do anything until we get a programmer. Most of our weapons are already animated, and there's more done than just what's on that page. Also, the coding that needs to be done is relatively simple, and the end result will (hopefully) be a lot of fun to play.
