I'm sure you've heard of Spore, the PC Bestseller of 2008. (Official and better Description, Videos, Pics, and Moar: [url]http://www.spore.com/what/spore[/url]) Yeah, It's old, but I haven't really ever seen anybody give a crap enough about it on Facepunch to make a Megathread about it, because It's supposedly a "kiddie game". Okay yeah, maybe a bit with the actual [i]game[/i], but not the creators. You can create almost [i]anything[/i] with the creators. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then listen. [b][u]There are 5 "Creators" in Spore:[/b][/u] [b]Cell Creator[/b] (which is the only 2D Creator), where you can create your own microbe out of a basic blob (which you can change the form of) a variety of body parts, and many Paint options. Not only do the parts change the appearance of your creature, but they give it new abilities. [b][u]NOTE: You can only get into the Cell Creator by starting a game in Cell Stage, or following some instructions to get into an Out-of-game Cell Creator.[/u][/b] [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTlEbPWeJic[/media] [b]Creature Creator[/b], which is essentially the same thing as the Cell Creator, but it's in 3D, you can change the basic blob in which you start out building with more (however you can change it at any time), a MUCH wider variety of parts, and even more Paint options. Many parts also change the creature's abilities. Except this time you don't start with a blob, you have to put in your own vehicle body. But my favorite part of the Vehicle Creator(s), is that there are four different kinds of vehicles that you can create. Land vehicles (A.K.A. Automobiles), water vehicles (A.K.A. Ships), air vehicles (A.K.A. Airships), and space vehicles (A.K.A. Spaceships). Every Vehicle Creator has some unique parts to use. Almost like the Vehicle Creator, there are 3 kinds of buildings you can create. A city hall, a factory, an entertainment center, and a house. They seem kind of random, don't they? Well, they're the only buildings you need to make a good city in the Spore Civilization Stage. But don't think it's limited, it really doesn't matter which kind of building you create, most of the parts don't have anything to do with that (however the cool, flashy ones do), you can make anything you want with any Creator. It really could have been better. A lot better. But I think people should recognize what we have, and not think about what it was supposed to be. Don't think about what Maxis promised, think about what Maxis made: A video game that would have been a thousand times more popular if better things hadn't been promised. But why you ask, should I make a thread about Spore when I or you could simply go to the Spore forum and talk there? I was gonna buy it but it came out when everyone was raging at the DRM so I didn't bother to be a rebel. Never got round to buying it since.

It could have been so awesome if they didn't "cute" it to make it suitable for 9 year olds. Spore without all the cuteness and real combat etc would be amazing.

I thought you could make a empire of your own creatures and take over other worlds and create a colony on those planets.. They turned it into a cute-7-year-old style.. This game could be the best sim ever..

I wouldn't mind a Spore 2; if they take what the community says into consideration it could be a good game.

It's a fun little timewaster, i can jump in the game when im bored and make a animal or blow some planets up. I find it enjoyable.

I had fun with it for some time, mostly with editors. Cell and Creature phases were really fun, Civ phase was ok but the rest of the game is absolutely horrible.

I got to agree with those last parts though, they were lacking.

I was really hyped for the game, and it was fun at first, but then I was disappointed, and havent really touched it since I got to space stage. Is it just me, or when you have wings and jump and you have animals of the same species in your gang, but they seem to always jump like 5 ft higher than me. And it would be cool if you could control their evolution more, like instead of just land animals, maybe water animals, or actual birds that can go for more than 5 flaps. In a sequel maybe?

I love Spore. One of the games in my Top 10.

They should make Spore 2. And they should make it like they said it was going to be - like the game they demoed at E3. With actual procedural animation and shit. We're not all five years old, EA. You don't need to sacrifice every ounce of complexity and challenge in the name of accessibility. As for all the people bitching about how everyone bitches about Spore, I think that it's somewhat justified that people are disappointed with Spore. It's not just a matter of the final release being [i]different[/i] from the prototypes. A lot of people got excited about Spore specifically because of the demos that they showed off at E3. So when the game came out it was extremely disappointing that several of the features we had seen in the demos weren't in the game. Developers make lofty promises and then fail to deliver all the time - we're used to it. But with Spore they promised it, they fucking [i]showed us that they had done it[/i] and that it was fucking awesome, and then they didn't give it to us. It honestly makes me kind of sad that the world won't get to experience those sweet demos that they first showed off.
