• My Xbox Keeps Overheating.....

Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? Is it the actual console overheating, or that huge as block-like power source? I heard the intercoolers you can buy at the stores are trash, and I aint going to waste money and time to prove that true. I'm currently using a large fan to try to cool it off, it works for a little bit, and then I get the two rings and its overheated again. Any advice(pertaining to this matter) is welcome, thanks FP.

So it must be the fan, too bad I live in bumfuck nowhere so I cant just have someone local replace/repair it.
If its less than 1-2 years old, its most likely under warrenty.
Nah, I think I got it back in '06.

Just open the top of your 360, use electrical tape to tape five pennies onto the GPU, and put the case back on. I'd link you to the video, but I forgot the URL. Just search "How To Stop Your Xbox 360 From Overheating".
My xbox 360 used to over heat a lot. I bought the fan and used it for a wile. Then after about 2 months i got the red ring of death. I looked at the back where the fan was and my xbox melded and discolored the plastic. I talked to Microsoft through the xbox calling thing and after 5 hours of talking I got a new xbox 360 for free and they told me to put it on its side (also i learned that the fan voids your warranty). That seemed to do the trick for a wile but then my disks started getting rings around them. The disk reader was scratching and breaking the games so i put it back down and used little wood blocks as stilts to hold my xbox up in the air. That was the only thing that solved my problem.

Even though the warranty is expired, you can still get a new one. Just phone Microsoft.
Yeah, don't get an intercooler. I made that mistake and the thing literally melted onto the back of my Xbox, it was impossible to get off, and broke the power connection. Microsoft told me that putting it on voided my warranty, so, couldn't send it in. Gamestop was nice enough to replace it though.
Kinda sad how much work must be done to stop it from overheating... my friend has lost 3 to overheating (They were all out in the open)
Intercoolers broke my xbox. Don't buy them at all. Yes I know the OP said he wasn't going to anyways but I thought I'd have my say.
I would do the penny's trick. Only use tons more pennys.
Wait so pennies really work? How?

I put it on the ground with a similar setup to yours lol.

Honestly, stop playing it for so long...
Honestly, stop playing it for so long...
This doesn't always apply. If the fan is failing the Xbox can cook itself in mere minutes.
It's not rocket science, keep it in a well vented place. Not in some small cramped space like a drawer. And not playing it 120 hours at a time helps a lot.
This doesn't always apply. If the fan is failing the Xbox can cook itself in mere minutes.
Yeah, I hardly play my Xbox. I'll play a few rounds of something and get off, the damn box doesn't consume my life like it does to most. I think I'll just call Microsoft soon and have it get sent it because this morning all I was doing was listnening to music, one song went by and it was overheating.
Icebucket bro
I use one, and all these scary things are making me worry about my Xbox. :ohdear:
I wouldn't worry, Sounds to me a lot like mostly Fear Mongering and faulty Xboxes causing the problems than the intercoolers themselves ... Imagine how hot something would have to be to melt it to an Xbox, If it's getting hot enough to do that, it isn't the intercooler doing it... How an intercooler that is both Pulling hot air out and blowing cooler air in is causing an overheating issue is waaaaay beyond my comprehension I've also used an Intercooler since Day One on my Xbox.. No it's not melted to my Xbox, and there's no possible way increased airflow increases your chances of overheating, if you're overheating with an Intercooler it's your Xbox, since they aren't *supposed* to overheat even without the increased airflow an intercooler provides Unless you got a Spaceheater beside your Xbox it's pulling the air in from
Turns out..the problem was there was too much dust in there. Talked to an old friend who a simlar problem, told me to get those air duster things. Tried it, runs like a top now, but ill keep everyone suggestions in mind, thanks again :D
