Recently, my year old computer caught on fire following a series of failed attempts at fixing a loose powercable. Since i mainly use my computer for mixing and music production i decided to get a mac, and i was not dissappointed. But then i remembered how much i loved gaming on my old blue Dell beastie.
Gaming for the mac is a much debated subject, many believe the mac simply isn´t powerful enough or is not fitted for serious gaming. Well i beg to differ!
I´m having a blast playing such classics as Rome total war ® and Homeworld 2 ® on my delicious huge ass screen ®, and since steam decided to expand their compatability to the mac i´ve been playing some sweet ass TF2 on here too.
Here is a list of the best gaming titles for the mac ®, as i´m sure my fellow mac users out there would be interested.
(being an RTS fan myself, this list might be a bit one-sided and should eventually be expanded.)

Rome total war / total war series
The must-have classic
A little backstory:
Being a complete sucker for the total war series, the first game i looked up when i decided to fit my mac with some sweet games was obviously rome. My memories from playing RTW on my PC are fond and many, and i couldn´t wait for it to ship while i eagerly paced around my mailbox in anticipation.
Rome is kind of an old game, and i reckoned its graphics should be easily handled by my band new iMac, even my dusty old PC could handle those pixels without breaking a sweat.
Obviously i was all fired up when RTW arrived.
Firing up the game, i fondly remembered my epic crusades leading the brave roman legions and the swift egyptian chariots. The menu screen and music filled me with childish glee as i started up my first every imperial campaign running on the OSX.
The lowdown:
In short, it ran great. My mac has never once flinched at the FPS-murdering hordes of barbarians or the dreaded chug-inducing fire-arrows. Gameplay is the same old that i know and love.
There are a couple of issues though.
Firstly, the camera controls during battle.
I have been forced to use the classic "total war" style camera dating back to shogun as i cannot scroll with my mouse at the edges of the screen thereby rendering the other cameras useless due to the inability to rotate. This has not been a huge problem however.
Secondly there are a few graphical glitches here and there, most notably a corrupted water texture that renders all water on the campaign map into a puke-green pixellated mess.
This i have also grown to ignore.
Oh, and obviously there is the inability to left-click.
The mac adresses this handicap by a simple key combination of cmd-click or ctrl-click however. No problems have been had, but it takes some getting used to.
So, in short, getting total war for your mac is a total must. It´s a great classic title that runs like a breeze. I can even tab into spotify during the most intense battles to slam on my favourite battle-anthems without the mac even breaking a sweat. Must have!
Reccomended battle anthem:
Iron maiden - Alexander the great (356 - 323 BC)

Sid meiers Civilization 4 (with expansions)
The flawless port
A little backstory:
I used to love playing the old civilization games on my aunts jurassic PC, and recently tried Civilization 4 on my friends crisp gamer-rig. (i was sold when i had 40+ nuclear submarines glassing my adversaries with atomic death!) Needless to say, i was sold when read about the title being released for the mac.
I ordered it, and fired it up. No snags, no artefacts. Completely smooth sailing.
The lowdown:
I have had absolutely no problems running this game on my mac. It looks gorgeous and never lags, chugs or flinches. The game is also incredibly fun and surprisingly deep, albeit a bit slow at times. Lacking a mousebutton was never a problem either. I´d recommend this game for anyone remotely interested in TBS games.
Reccomended nuclear death requiem:
SYL - Detox

Homeworld 2
The sometimes troublesome space-RTS
A little backstory:
I had never gotten into the Homeworld saga, only remembering it through obscure childhood memories of me and a friend playing it on his old rig. It seemed like a fun game, and after reading a couple of stellar reviews i decided to order it.
I booted it up and had no problems whatsoever. Until the game started.
The lowdown:
Well, this is where the mac met its match. Homeworld 2 is a pretty old game if i recall correctly, but it includes some pretty jaw dropping visuals. After starting the tutorial i immediately saw my mac struggling to render the beautyful nebulae and constellations in all their 3d glory. Some FPS problems were had when rotating the camera to display the rich skybox features, and the game chugged when i obliterated enemy battlecruisers and motherships.
However!
The game is totally playable. Minor FPS-snags are commonplace for the former owner of the most troublesome old PC ever. I was almost surprised to see rome and CIV run as smoothly as they did and the issues with homeworld weren´t serious enough to disrupt gameplay in any major way. I had a blast playing it, and you probably will too if you decide to get it.
Reccomended nebular battle track:
Sub focus - Timewarp

I´ll add some more games eventually, but right now i´m going to go play some borderlands.
On my mac!
Oh, and i wasn´t going to mention it, but don´t turn this thread into a mac vs. PC clusterfuck.
I have always used PCs and love and respect them just as much as i appreciate the mac and its media processing power. Peace!
Civ4 FTW.
While you mentioned you're playing TF2 right now you didn't add it to the list?
Just put all the ported valve titles there.
Holy fuck Homeworld 2 is on the Mac? :O
Does it MP on the same server as the Windows version?
To add to the list, Myst is traditionally a Mac title.
Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are both MAC compatible.
I wish games that are hybrid that have shitty communities (CSS, CS 1.6, other source engine games for example) would tell you what system they're playing on. Nothing invasive, just either Windows or Mac.

Nothing like a system to encourage Elitism when gaming too right?

I think I found the problem.

Also you're defiling Homeworld with Timewarp? shame on you
World of Warcraft, Warcraft 3, Starcraft, (soon) Starcraft 2. A few more. Oh and all the ported valve games: Portal, Counter Strike Source, Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2, Day of Defeat: Source.
How could you forget Killing Floor?
