• low performance in cod4

i recently got a new nvidia 9500 gt with 1gb of memory, and i installed cod4 today, but i have very low fps and im on the minimum settings, i fit the minimum req except for my processor, but i know thats not the cause because it would lag no matter where im at in the game, for example i lag on the first mission on the boat when im going across the middle outside, but when i look straight down at the ground my fps is great lol, so if it was the processor, wouldnt i lag all the time? so can someone tell me what the problem is, btw my processor is an AMD athlon xp 3100 2.2ghz, i have a gig of ram, im running windows xp home edition, my video card driver version is 6.14.00118208. please help!
You recently got a 9500GT? Why?
I don't know, a combination of bad RAM and a bad processor is never good, try to quit as many programs running in the background as you can.
Everything on your PC needs to be upgraded.
all of the cards in the 9 series of nvidia are shit except the 9800.

Why?
i read that it could play cod4 on highest settings [editline]05:31PM[/editline]
I don't know, a combination of bad RAM and a bad processor is never good, try to quit as many programs running in the background as you can.
i always do that before i run any game, not because all my games lag like cod 4 though, just for the best performance possible. [editline]05:32PM[/editline]
Everything on your PC needs to be upgraded.
dont have the money for it, and i wont for a long time EDIT- does it help if i say that its a PCI, not PCI-E
The problem is that your computer is terrible. The only way you're going to get better performance is by upgrading.
The 9500 is genuinely terrible, for the ones in the format Series-Model-00-Varient the "800" was generally the only one better than the "800" of the previous series, the rest are mostly just for light gaming/multimedia. And if your processor doesn't meet the minimum specs then you're getting nowhere. 1GB RAM is alright but not great, I first ran it on full with 1GB smoothly. CoD4 is from 2007, that's a long time in computer terms. You REALLY need to upgrade, and do some research before you dive in and buy something awful like the 9500. I've got an 8800GTS and can still run things on full/mostly full settings and that's very cheap now, you might consider it.
Everything on your PC needs to be upgraded.
I wouldn't say that. I only have an 8800GTS, but it runs Cod4 fine with graphics that look pretty much the same as on PS3 or something (never checked what the actual settings are). I know more or less fuck all about what a good graphics card is though, isn't there quite a lot of overlap between the nVidia series?
EDIT- does it help if i say that its a PCI, not PCI-E
oh god if you paid more than 30 dollars for that card you got ripped off PCI cars are NOT worth the money at all. I think it may have started in the 7 or 8 series.

Massive overlap, see previous post.
I feel sorry for OP
i got a pci card because it was the only thing available to me, i got the card so i could atleast run bf2 and oblivion, which both of them run great, im only 12 and i dont really know everything about computers, and i dont think theres an 8800 or 9800 for PCI, i only have PCI, and yes, i paid 80 bucks for it, i looked at five reviews for it and they were all pretty good(for a pci card). I didnt pay for cod4 either, it was my uncles and he let me borrow it, so its not like i bought the card and JUST for cod4 and wasted my money, other than cod4 problems, i thought it was a good choice.
You should have researched MUCH more.
Are you sure you can't support either PCI-E or AGP? AGP should be in early-2000s computers, and PCI-e should be in anything remotely modern It sounds like you just need a new computer. and never rely on a PCI card for gaming. ever.
I figured out i had AGP after i got the card, and i dont have any money at all, so i cant buy another card :(
About 3 years ago, I bought a PCI card for $90 at walmart. FML
what does FML mean? EDIT- nevermind, i looked it up.
