.tga sprays not working, .vtf works fine

I don't know what's the problem, but when ever I try to put a .tga spray into a source game it will not work, I had no such problems with .vtfs, only .tgas.

Help please?

The problem is the spray is a tga, if there is a vtf stray of the spray I wanted I wouldn't even bother making a thread, I would just used that spray.
