What is Love?: Your first guess is probably wrong. Love is a "not-so-massively multiplayer online game". In love, there are elements that FPS, Sandbox and Adventure games would have. The closest thing I can compare it to is a mixture between Garry's Mod, Wurm Online and Minecraft. The goal is to build a settlement cooperatively with other players while facing hostile (and now able to work with friendly) AI. You can terraform within a ring of influence which makes up your settlement centralized around a monolith, one of many technologies you can find in the form of tokens and place in your settlement. Go here for a good demo of some gameplay. [All videos/links will be annotated at the bottom of the post] What is Quel Solaar: Quite simply, Quel Solaar is the engine in which Love runs on. Quel Solaar is a part of the Verse network. If you want to borrow a friend account to try the game before buying a voucher you can ask about that on Teamspeak as well. Most of the Love community gathers on the Teamspeak server and doesn't visit the forums very much. The developer is also present on most days. The way it is right now, community participation is not optional in Love, and might as well be required for most intents and purposes. You can try to start out on your own, but chances are you will end up very lost and have a very frustrating time learning the game. I've always wanted to try this... is it good?
I've always wanted to try this... is it good?
It's amazing. Especially with the new bang for your buck with an increase from 30 to 180 days per 10 Pounds. (Again, when I find out what it is in dollars I'll post it. It's not much more, though, obviously.)

At €10.00, it's ~$13. LOVE is actually the first subscription-based game I've justified to myself: for roughly $40, less than the price of a mainstream game, you can get about a year and a half, by which point most people get burnt out on a game anyways. As soon as I get my new computer, I'll be purchasing a voucher.

Oh wow. £9.11 in my bank. :smith:
I will play when a free trial comes out.
I will play when a free trial comes out.
There's been a free trial from the very beginning, it's called a friend account. If you want a go, just send me a pm and I'll let you know when I'm on, or as mentioned before, join in TeamSpeak or check out the Steam group, or the Facebook page to get other people. There's also been a free weekend in the past, I suspect Eskil will be holding others in the future, in fact, I'll ask Eskil about that when I see him in two days. PS: Anyone in London can come meet him, Sunday 9th Jan, 4pm at the Porterhouse in Covent Garden, more details on GL: http://www.gaminglove.net/forums/news-updates/3218-eskil-london.html
Holy hell this looks great.
I will play when a free trial comes out.
As iamacyborg mentioned, there is already a free trial in the form of a friend account. Just join teamspeak and ask for one. This is probably the best way to try out the game as you'll have someone to introduce you to the game. Players to try to start out on their own generally do not do very well. Eskil says he might have another free weekend in the future, but not for quite a while and I imagine it will be done somewhat differently than the last one. The last free weekend didn't exactly go very smoothly mostly due to some bugs that just so happened to appear during that weekend and the fact that really large and sudden influxes of new players tend to mess things up in the game.
Yea. I'd suggest posting on Gaming Love, get acquainted and see if you can find someone to let you use their guest account. Though, I didn't even do that much. 13 dollars for 180 days of an MMO is pretty damn good, and if you decide it's not the game for you- well, there's not much of an investment lost. [editline]7th January 2011[/editline]
Oh wow. £9.11 in my bank. :smith:
I was mistaken, it's actually Euros, not pounds. 10 Euros is 8.3175 Quid. You're in luck! Edit: Assuming Eskil applies economic equilibriam into play /economy nerd.
This is relevant to my interests. How many FPers play? If we can get a group together I'd be more than happy to drop $13 for the game.
This is relevant to my interests. How many FPers play? If we can get a group together I'd be more than happy to drop $13 for the game.
There's at least three of us who play at the moment. It'd be cool to get a group of people.
I bought it, figured $13.26 for 180 days of playtime is worth it, I'd get wayyy bored of it before then
I bought it, figured $13.26 for 180 days of playtime is worth it, I'd get wayyy bored of it before then
good stuff. You should hop on teamspeak this evening and when more of us are on and we'll show you the ropes!
and now I can't even buy it. It won't accept my card and I have to add my bank account and direct debit or some shit to my paypal. Fuck that.
I am downloading it now. I am on the TS and i'm gonna try out a friends account and see how it is.
and now I can't even buy it. It won't accept my card and I have to add my bank account and direct debit or some shit to my paypal. Fuck that.
not sure what the problem is for you. try again tomorrow.
I think I might have to see if I can get my brother to buy me this, it looks so damn awesome!
not sure what the problem is for you. try again tomorrow.
Still not working. It doesn't accept my card I think.
This looks really interesting, I really wish I could try it out
This looks really interesting, I really wish I could try it out
You can. Hop on the teamspeak (Info in OP or on love main page) and see if anyone will let you use their guest account. I'm Windmill on TS.
Oh whoa that's really nice of them to allow guest accounts Though, if i really like the game i don't think i'd be able to play it until i have a job
If anyone in the UK has a guest account, that would be awesome since it won't let me buy it.
I remember in the Atlanta server, after an AI artillery attack on our mountain fortress, Asgard, all the players scattered and formed isolated clans across the planet as the AI was increasingly stronger. I was a leader of a small, 3 person clan located on a frozen sea. After weeks of oppression and hunting from the AI, I united the clans against the AI, and we were able to bring them down after days of intense fighting.

I didn't really like this game when I tried it. Not enough constants in the game, too much change. I felt like I had to play most of the day just to keep up. It wasn't worth it. It also ran like shit.
So besides these huge battles you hear of once in a while, what do you actually do when you're not fighting?
Build up your settlement in between attacks, increase relations with the AI, go on an adventure for more tokens...
