I have it updated to 1.0.4.0. does that have to do with anything?
"perty"? What is this, Moonshine county? Be glad GTA4 works on your computer, mine will run for like 5 minutes.
Try installing ENBseries or a shader mod
1.0.4.0? Isn't the newest patch something like 1.0.7.0?
what GTA IV lacks in graphics front it sure as hell makes up in the CPU hogging department.
It's a console port, don't expect much from them.
gta 4 has pretty graphics? what
oh my god! I have all the settings at max and i have the roads disapearing how does this look bad but the xbox doesn't!
It's a console port, don't expect much from them.
GTA 4 looks much better on PC than on consoles.
gta 4 has pretty graphics? what
I don't know how you can say that. GTA 4 has so many small details that make it look amazing. A huge city where everything casts shadows from the sun, detailed cars, detailed buildings and a huge view distance.
oh my god! I have all the settings at max and i have the roads disapearing how does this look bad but the xbox doesn't!
I'm guessing you pirated it? GTA should automatically update itself. Update to the latest version. It improves performance and makes the shadows look a lot better. Also, post your specs.
ooh wait i'm mixing up 4 with vice city, because vc was the 4th game
Upping the resolution really made a difference for me.

I have a 3.2 dual core, 4gb of ram and a 5770 and I have to play on all medium and I still get render distance problems. On all high I get weird trails of everything, and with rendering on medium and textures on high cutscenes don't work.

I'm not sure if GTA 4 is well optimized at it's current patch or just buggy. I've got a Q6600 @ 2.4ghz, 4GB of ram and a GTX 280. I'm able to run the game at highest settings with render/view distance at 30-40 (this is view distance for peds/cars/objects/details, not the city view distance) with 30-60 FPS. I have no graphical artifacts and the game runs fine without crashing for me. It must be bad with certain hardware, and considering how complex the game is compared to most PC games, I can't tell if they did a good job optimizing it or not. This game renders a huge city with lots of detail which puts stress on a graphics card. The processor does it's usual stuff and also the euphoria physics. I'm not sure how well euphoria should run because the only other game I know of that uses it on PC is Star Wars the Force Unleashed and that was a terrible port. Considering your specs, it seems the game is a bad port because I can run it fine; but it may be your processor that's bottlenecking your performance. Or maybe your performance is fine and the game's just really fucked up with certain hardware. What framerate are you able to run this game at? Update to the latest version first, the shadows are optimized and look much better.
ooh wait i'm mixing up 4 with vice city, because vc was the 4th game
wtf
This game is fucking awesome. Have 90 hours logged so far and I'm at 60% completion. Haven't even started Lost and Damned or Gay Tony.

It's probably the processor bottlenecking (I'm planning on getting a 955 eventually) though. On all medium I get ~40-30 fps and the occasional lag spike when 10+ cops are chasing me and I crash into traffic.
im running the game at 40 fps and none of my screenshots are working, i dont get how the game looks good on other peoples computers, but the game doesnt have anti aliasing [editline]04:48AM[/editline] ok here are the screenshots
The game uses Deferred shading, so it can't run AA in Dx9.
You imbecile, you are over your video memory by a buttload. Cut back on some of that shit.

I have a friend who also has an AMD/ATI computer (tri-core 2.9ghz, 5770) and he also gets lagspikes. The game crashes every 10 minutes for him. He's able to run the game on highest settings without any problems before that, though. I've never had any of those so I have no idea how you'd fix them. Is the game updated to the latest version? Are your drivers up to date? Jaggies shouldn't bother you while you're playing the game at that resolution but if it does, you can always force AA through your graphics card control panel. If you do manage to get the game to work by updating, you can turn view and detail distance down to around 50 for a higher framerate because it's really not noticeable unless you look at comparison screenshots. Rather than having your graphics card render small details on buildings far away, they'll fade in at a shorter distance where you can actually see them. [editline]10:59PM[/editline]
You imbecile, you are over your video memory by a buttload. Turn down your graphics bro.
"It doesn't look perty" No SHIT it doesn't, you can't magically run a game on full just because you can launch it on your computer... Get a new computer, stop complaining, or turn down your graphics. Jesus.
I can run GTA IV on my PC at around 20-30FPS on my GT 220 with all on high except Shadows which are on meduim. And night shadows = off. Other Specs: CPU = Intel Pentium Dual Core E6300 @ 2.8GHz PSU = 600W
GTAIV is an extremely demanding game in terms of processing power. Unfortunately unless you are running a quad core processor or a very powerful dual core you are going to have various issues with framerate. Turn down the cars and that helps, also keeping the draw distance down fairly low is good. You may need more than 2GB of RAM too, the game tends to have memory issues.
does graphics really matter that much?
Turn down your settings it even says it right there!
It does have okay graphics. But I ignore that if they made traffic seem like real traffic. The city has an empty feeling to it. Also traffic lights were always on the wrong side.
