I created the pole an another site cause I plan on posting this on a few forum.. Obviously Yes and No don't accurately convey peoples opinions feel free to further explain your choice on here and feel free to debate the definition of a "gamer" and a "game" (are people who play a lot of cribbage irl considered "gamers"?). While I'm sure other poles like this have been made, I haven't personally seen one and I'm trying to get as many people to vote in this as possible as I've seen this argument on just about anything where text can be written by on it and other people can read and reply to it. from forum and facebook to the walls on bathroom stalls... Why not? COD is a game just as much as any other FPS?
I wouldn't mix games that you do in real life with video games.
Gamer for me is basically anyone who plays video games, so even those people who play angry birds on their facebook is a gamer.
But then that falls into Casual gamers and Hardcore gamers.
Really trying to talk about who is and who isn't is just a waste of time since everyone has a different view of it.
Grandma playing Angry Birds on her iPhone can be a gamer, the term doesn't only apply to people playing the video games you enjoy.

By that logic everyone on this whole forum for the most part is wasting their time.... And even if they are maybe they got time to waste and are gonna waste it talking about trivial shit... You're on the internet cause you got free time and if your not gonna spend it constructively then your wasting it having fun... Are you seriously gonna try and be the king who deems what is and isnt trivial enough to have time wasted on it? The point that everyone has different views is what my goal is. After a few hundred/thousand posts and votes you'll see trends in thinking.
And trust me there is plenty to talk about! People being like "Oh what you say someone who kills one person shouldn't be called a murderer?" And that logic is flawed as hell! A. someone who tries something depending on what it is isn't someone who does it regularly. A guy who's thrown a football once is not a football player... But somethings stick like murder. But even then cause B. If someone raped and killed a child he's a murderer. the Parent that kills him while is convicted of murder is a killer. the difference is a murderer goes out and murders people. a killer Can and WILL kill if they feel they need to. Soldiers are killers, not murderers, I don't care how opposed people are to the war or how unjust it is. Until the person is taking people out of there homes and killing them on the street with out orders he is not a murderer. (again some exceptions anyone who shoots a baby is a murderer. they havent/couldnt ever do anything to them nor can they defend them selves)

Yes we are. Your point?
I just want a term for people that play lots of various, non mainstream games that isn't "Hardcore gamer"
When somebody says "Hardcore gamer" I think of the kind of player that plays games competitively, or who says Dark Souls was piss easy and goes off to whine about "bloody casuals", not the kind of guy that just likes to play lots of different games and cares what's going on in the industry and the likes, but "Casual gamer" really doesn't fit that, since it's obviously more than another pastime activity to them

also not trying to make this a I hate COD post....... I'm not even gonna tell you people if i even play cod or any other video games. video game forums aren't just for people who play video games right? My opinions shouldn't even factor in. I've just seen this shit everywhere so I'm asking people from all over the place... get them all the rank it in and get a general census so keep the flames in the dragons mouth thanks...

Are you honestly expecting something more grand, and important in every post, on a website dedicated to a mod of a game? All media could be considered a waste of time.
Yes we are. Your point?
Thanks i fixed it :), but I am trying to be on 4+ different forums plus facebook so excuse me if my proof reading is a little sloppy i have a tendency to do it after i write my message and long ones are gonna have mistakes I've missed :P
yeah screw cod go play real games like battlefield they're exactly the same but better

Well rounded? Idk
either way, of course they're gamers. Just because someone spends a lot of time playing a series that the majority of your "real gamerzz~~~" don't like doesn't mean they're not actually a gamer. If they spend a lot of time playing CoD and they do it competitively, they're a "hardcore gamer", or at the least a hardcore CoD player.
Either way, to me, having anything gamer attached to how I describe my interests just sounds pretentious to me. I just say I like games.

I would argue that media allows the mind to develop and attain knowledge and skills and enjoyment. We live in a society that allows us to 'waste our time'.
That thread makes me cringe.
I see we are dealing with such an important question here. I can imagine someone seriously thinking if someone should be given the honored name of gamer or not. But I don't want to, because it is creepy.
I think the notion that you have to play a certain game/kind of game in order to be a "real gamer" does nothing but breed elitism. It's completely pointless.
That being said, there are differently different sects inside of gaming. Just as a fan of Romantic Comedies is not likely to enjoy a Horror movie, somebody who plays Angry Birds every once in a while might not going to enjoy a good game of Civilization V. The fact that people are asking if they're "real" gamers just proves this. There's differences, just like with anything, and people like to talk about them.

guess you're alone on this one

That's not the only mistake in your post, BTW. But I'm not here to complain about your grammar skills, because that would be classified within ad hominem territory, the real problem here is your terrible thread with your really stupid argument.
You see, Call of Duty is not in any way, shape or form worse than any other game on the market, the only problem with it is that it's overpriced, and that it's arguably the "same game every year". I strongly disagree with the latter argument, but nonetheless. Anyway, these two major points against COD do not change the fact that it is a GAME series, and therefor the people who play it are called GAMERS. A gamer is someone who enjoys computer entertainment often, nothing more. nothing less. Yes, your grandma who plays Angry Birds is a gamer. Also, the titles "hardcore" and "casual" exist for elitism purposes
