I've signed up for the closed beta of Lord of the Rings: Online and got accepted, but I'm just not as enthused as I was before. Therefore, I'm giving away my beta code along with a code to use to redeem "Turbine Points" (a type of currency to buy random crap that makes you better than the other free, unwashed masses). It'll go to the first person who wants it here. I'll PM it to you.
Can I have it?
There you go, all set.
Thanks mate, really do appreciate it.
I thought the beta ended today because when i activated my key it said my account was good until the 10th, but i checked again and now it says the 12th so i guess it is still up.
Nope, it's still going on. The front page of the game site is a sign up sheet for the beta.
Didn't this game come out like 4 years ago?
It did, but now it's going F2P (Free to Play) and they want people to test the new format. With it, they are also implementing mini-transactions. It's basically following the trend of Dungeons & Dragons: Online.
Do we Owners of the 29,99$ MMORPG get anything? Bought the game but didnt keep subscribing.

There you go.
Well, I haven't got any keys, any notification from them at all.
Oh well it is going to be f2p
Subscribers who have been playing will keep their benefits and there's going to be a VIP system. Free to players or 'pubbies' will be limited in most aspects, gold, server login time, all that jazz. VIPs are people who pay for the game, so if you're subbed, and you keep paying, you get a free 500 TP to spend in the Turbine Store every month, and you get extra benefits where you would not if you were only a Premium or F2P.
AKA Cashshop that gives paying players unfair advantages over other people.
Not really. You can't buy weapons and armour. It just is some random fluff like mounts, housing, cosmetics etc.

And you honestly belive they WONT add stuff like that?
Yes, I do. They've said themselves that they refuse to take the gameplay aspect away from the game. That would be monetary suicide. Then you wouldn't have to pay for WIP to get the stuff. If you could just toss a few bucks in and you get the best gear handed to you. No, it doesn't work that way. It is well known that LotRO is a PvE-oriented game. They would not benefit in doing that, in any way.
[editline]11:27PM[/editline]
Say, you have 1,000 people on a monthly £10 subscription, that's £10,000 a month (random numbers). If you add armour to the store for example, and say, charge £30 for the armour sets on whole. A great lot of people dislike the idea of a cheapskate system like this, which would cause a drop in subs, say 300 cancel, that's £3,000, PER MONTH you've lost in your try gain extra.
Besides, with that much content ahead of us. That bought equipment will get outdated extremely quick. And even those who stoop that low to buy gear, will start whining when they have to buy it new over and over again.
The ability to buy gear would only work in a game that is 100% completely free. And even then it is very doubtful.
Turbine is a respectable company and they won't alienate their customers and fans by giving items that have an impact on PvE/PvP gameplay.
They've already done this with DDO. It worked out well for that game. They know what they're doing.
Any idea how long the server login time is going to be?
10GB beta client is a bit hefty D:

Considering that it has been a full time regular MMO for 3 years, no it isn't. There is a ton of content in there.
Is LOTRO for Mac too?
Signed up for the beta last week-ish. No key yet. :(
I got a key, I entered it, I was accepted, and it says accounts are activated between 10 AM and 10 PM US Eastern time
That was 3 days ago
Try sending them a mail stating your problem.
I still haven't got a key and I signed up about a month ago :(
Me too. :(

That's fair enough.
In fact, most of the purchaseable items have been released. The only equipment you can buy is class items like Burglar marbles, shield spikes, instruments and the like.

I'm playing this right now, I tried it on a free trial before. It's a good game, and I'm pleased it's going f2p, I think more people on facepunch should sign up!
