• Attempt to fix the worst source error ever.

Ever since late 2009 I have had an odd error that crashed all source games at start up with no sign of error, After searching the internet far and wide I have gotten one answer. Delete all source games, and reinstall them. And no, not just "delete local content" I am talking about literally deleting all the files, every single one. So they are re-downloading as I anxiously wait. If this works you may not see me for another few weeks due to Gmod.
..What?
it won't fix it
it won't fix it
Its the only real option I have besides -window. And if that does not work I would have to get an entirely new computer. :smith:
it's probably an issue with your drivers or something
it's probably an issue with your drivers or something
I have vista drivers that are up to date. also on that note Fuck you vista I hate you. [editline]12:10AM[/editline] Nope It failed :crying:
Verify the game cache
Odd fix; try running Steam as administrator. Right-click, Run as administrator.
Both don't work. As I said in the OP I seem to have a VERY rare problem. All the fixes I've found for similar problems have failed.
I had similar problem with some source games. (HL2, HL2 EP1 and CSS). They always crashed on startup. It had something to do with the "old" source engine, because when HL2, EP1 and CSS engine was patched to Orange Box engine the crash on startup issue fixed itself. It was annoying.

Mine crashes when I launch the episodes and Half-Life 2, and same with Left 4 Dead 1 :byodood: At least I know I'm not the only one.
Ask Steam Support? On the final note don't get a new PC, just format this one...?
Ask Steam Support? On the final note don't get a new PC, just format this one...?
I am not the only one using this computer, so I cant. Also VALVe support cant do anything to help me. I've already tried contacting them and they cant fix the problem. So I am pretty much boned unless a miracle comes around. But thanks for your help anyways.
By the way, deleting local content does absolutely nothing if you're already verified your files. Deleting the game folders is the equivalent of a "fresh install."
Mine are fully up to date.
I had that problem 2009 and early 2010. Its fixed now cause VALVE patched those games to Orange Box engine.
I do actually suggest gets XP because Vista is shit. If you don't want to buy a new pc, you can (torrent or borrow) a copy of Windows XP from someone or online. (User was banned for this post ("Warez" - Jimbomcb))
I think it was a scam.
Why would he get XP when he has a better OS already?
Why would he get XP when he has a better OS already?
Vista is bad for source games, I mean really really bad
That could be the problem why it wont work.
But I used to play source games all the time. But vista is unable to update its security.
Windows 7 is far more superior than Vista and XP :v:
Put -autoconfig to your launch options, that usually fixes everything.
Try in the launch options; -dxlevel 81
op go to one of the games folders like cstrike or tf folder , copy everything from BIN and paste it in the Counter-Strike Source , or Team Fortress 2 folder , or any other game that wont run. This fixed my problem , the only diffrence is that i got an error saying about failing to load launcher.dll
All of these fail to work. :smith:
All my 2007 mods mod have that annoying "setuparrayprops" error, I have tried the Gameinfo fix,and it didn't work. Is there any fix you know of without removing episode 2 content, because this a episode 2 mod, the other mods work fine.
Try adding this to the launch options for each game: -windowed -noborder -w 1680 -h 1050 -nocrashdialog Replace the "1680" and "1050" with your screen resolution.
Vista is bad for source games, I mean really really bad
It is bad for all 3d games, and my dad said vista uses too much userspace, or something like that.
Vista is fine with Source games and any game. I never get how people have problems with Vista.
