• Monaco - A Fast Paced Co-op Heist Game

Monaco is a top down co-op or single player game supporting up to 4 players where you each control one out of 8 crew members in order to pull off the perfect heist, by Pocketwatch games. This game has been in development for a few years now, and back when it was just a prototype it won 2 awards at the 2010 GDC Independent Games Festival for "Grand Prize", and "Excellence In Design". During a level a player will normally need to get past a wide range of security in order to get to higher floor levels in the building, until he reaches the floor that the objective is on. While stealth is of the up-most importance you'll be caught often, and when you do you need to be prepared for the fast pasted action that follows to get back out of sight of guards and other security measures. The game throws you into the boots of one of 8 specialized crew members, each of which with their own special abilities which range from a hobo with a pet monkey, to a hacker to take out security. A good range of players will pick the perfect crew of 4 to suit their play-style in order to get through the levels. While the game is designed with coop in mind, lone-wolves aren't left out - you can still play through the game alone, you'll just need to be more careful. During a level you will notice that coins and items will be scattered about for use. Weapons for example, when picked up, will only have 1 "shot" before they're useless to you until you pick up 10 coins, which will reward you with an additional shot. When every coin in the level is collected alongside the completion of the main objective and escape will unlock a "boss" version of the level, which is extremely hard in comparison to how it was before. There is a story attaching the game together, and there are cool story elements to explain stuff such as the boss versions of the levels. Here's a list of the available crew members in the game:
The Locksmith: Blue-collar infiltration expert The Lookout: She can see and hear everything... a natural leader The Pickpocket: A hobo with a monkey and a penchant for crime The Cleaner: A silent psychopath... John Wayne Gacy in pink The Mole: Big and dumb... likes to tunnel The Gentleman: He doesn't always wear a disguise, but when he does, he looks fantastic The Hacker: Armies of viruses shut down security... a modern day warlock The Redhead: Manipulative and murderous... a lady always gets what she wants
Media: Note the screenshots do not do this game any justice if you have no clue what you're looking at - I recommend watching a video first. [t]http://www.pocketwatchgames.com/Monaco/images/screenshots/the_lookout_in_action.jpg[/t] [t]http://www.pocketwatchgames.com/Monaco/images/screenshots/lobby.jpg[/t] [t]http://www.pocketwatchgames.com/Monaco/images/screenshots/its_a_trap.jpg[/t] [t]http://www.pocketwatchgames.com/Monaco/images/screenshots/the_pickpocket.jpg[/t] Links & Shit Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/113020/ Official Site: http://www.pocketwatchgames.com/Monaco/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MonacoIsMine Twitter: https://twitter.com/monacoismine These people will play coop with other FP'ers, feel free to add them:
PieClock - http://steamcommunity.com/id/Spyder638 QuinnithXD - http://steamcommunity.com/id/QuinnithXD HumanAbyss - http://steamcommunity.com/id//HumanAbyss/ Furnost - http://steamcommunity.com/id/scorpionsVise/ Chickens! - http://steamcommunity.com/id/Soul_Chicken
YES, FINALLY SOMEONE MADE A THREAD ABOUT THIS GAME. I am so goddamn hyped for this. I've been following the development for months. I already know it's gonna be amazing.
How did I never hear about this? Looks pretty neat.
Aww yeah. I have my avatar and my hype ready.
That sounds like a really good concept
Reminds me of this flash game whose name I don't remember. Except it was very slow paced and this seems to be a lot faster.
looks fun. Graphic style looks simular to prison architect.
I can't wait! I totally forgot that I already pre-ordered this.
I remember being really hyped for this back in 2010 so I preordered it as soon as I could It looks fantastic and prototype is great fun. Will there be online multiplayer? -edit- Nevermind, I looked through the steam hub and the developers said that there is online multiplayer with matchmaking
Bumping this with some minor info. Just over a week left until release, and because of this they've actually slapped a discount on the price (albeit not the biggest one) and some of you might appreciate not missing it. The price was $15 before, it's $13.50 now for the next 9 days. Another thing is something posted on their FB page from them that I thought was interesting, which goes over the different play-styles and why you might enjoy single player more than coop. Here's a link to it, because it's formatted better. Here's a quote from that article that I found particularly interesting:
We have beta testers with over 200 hours in the game, JUST in single player.
If I can get even 50 hours out of a game that costs $13.50 then happy days. The guys in the beta don't even have the level editor I believe, which would probably add a bunch more hours. Gotta say, I'm excited, and again I think this game deserves more attention.
probably buying it right now but i dont have any friends that i know of atm buying/considering buying it so that i could play with them :(
I've been playing the Prototype in singleplayer and I'm having a blast with it. As that article I posted said as well, if you enjoy slower paced stealth you can find it in this game on single player, so if you enjoy that I wouldn't be too worried about not having someone to coop with. So much elizabeth.
Buying as soon as it goes on Steam. Can't wait.
Why not just preorder it? I think it's gone down to $13.50.
Why not just preorder it? I think it's gone down to $13.50.
I already have $10.68 in Steam, I can just put in another $5 and get it (or another $3, depending on if the pre-order pops up). [editline]15th April 2013[/editline] FYI - the twitter account just told me Steam pre-order starts this Wed.
1 week left. You can now buy the game on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/113020/ Official trailer:
do you get the prototype as well if you directly buy it on steam or do you have to do it on their site? either way in the end you still get it on steam, but i wanna play a bit of the prototype too
Asked the dev about that on Twitter, I'll get back to you if he replies. I don't think you do though. But buying from the site is fairly seamless anyway because it uses the humble store.
New trailer is p cool. Can't wait, oh man.
do you get the prototype as well if you directly buy it on steam or do you have to do it on their site? either way in the end you still get it on steam, but i wanna play a bit of the prototype too
"@PieClock No but I'm happy to link you if you want them anyways!" Sorry man :(
So this releases in 18 hours (and the 10% sale ends), can't wait. Who else has the game? By the way, the game has been delayed on Xbox Live due to a show stopping bug. I doubt that concerns anyone here but just a heads up anyway.
Oh man, I can't wait for when this releases, I preordered a four-pack earlier last week to play with some of my friends, though the prototype has some serious desync issues so we haven't been able to play together.
i finally bought it a day or two ago
So impressed with this game. Might have to buy it. Very curious though, is this coming out earlier in any different timezone or is it just "wait the 18 hours you impatient ass" kind of situation
So impressed with this game. Might have to buy it. Very curious though, is this coming out earlier in any different timezone or is it just "wait the 18 hours you impatient ass" kind of situation
Releases in 18 hours everywhere, you impatient ass. Developer is saying on Twitter all the reviews the game has got so far have been through the roof.
Fucking pre-ordered this bitch.
I'm surprised I haven't been hearing more about this game. It really does look like a lot of fun, but I just don't think I'd play it brand-new without having 2-3 friends who also bought it. Maybe that's not the best mentality to have, but I've been very frugal with games lately.
does this have local coop on pc or just console?
No money, can't buy.
does this have local coop on pc or just console?
PC version has local coop too :) The dev is posting early review quotes:
"Monaco offers a multiplayer experience unlike any other game on the market." - GameInformer "The most inventive heist game I have ever played. Brilliant." - RockPaperShotgun "There’s more character packed into the low-fi stylings of Monaco than any game we’ve played this year." - PCPowerplay Magazine "I can easily say Monaco is the most fun I’ve had with a videogame in years." - Games.on.net "one of the most interesting games I've ever played." - EntertainmentFuse.com
