For the videos I've been uploading lately, whenever I pass through Portals, I get this unusual "lag". And sometimes, the same when I shoot the Portal Gun. But this does NOT happen when I'm playing. Does anyone have any ideas?

I get a 5 to 20 fps drop depending on the level when I open my Portals, it all started with the 2009 update. Also nice fullbright there bro.
What's fullbright? :o
Also, I don't want to make a new topic but my Hl2 ep1 isnt starting. It just says "Preparing to launch Half Life 2: Episode 1..." then the dialog box goes away then nothing. Some help please?
In your top video reep's map looks like ass without the color correction or proper lighting. Put fullbright 0 in console and if that doesnt work turn your settings up.
Also are you using source recorder to take these videos?
Yes I'm using Source Recorder.
Yeah thats the problem, Source recorder and Portal are extremely buggy, youll need to use another recording program like Fraps, dont even record a demo though cause thats still source recorder and the Portals will still bug.
Load a map and record while you play, otherwise you get bugged out Portal recordings.
Ok.
Anyways on to my Episode 1 problem, any help?
Did you try to verify game cache or reinstall it?
Hmm episode 2 works...
[editline]12:00PM[/editline]
I verified it.
I'll try reinstalling it now.
[editline]12:18PM[/editline]
Reinstalled Ep1, still same problem.
[editline]12:27PM[/editline]
Even tried deleting clientregistry.blob, still nothing
:C
[editline]12:47PM[/editline]
I've tried the following:
-verifying
-reinstalling
-launch option -novid
-launch option -autoconfig
-deleted clientregistry.blob
-sw

That happened to me with some of my games. Try renaming your steamapps folder (in something like c:\program files\steam\) to steamapps_old and then reinstalling. If that doesn't work, back up your steamapps folder somewhere so you don't lose it and then uninstall steam completely.
As for the lag, I don't know how to help you. I get around 20 fps all the time, so lag is a normal for me.
None of that worked. Its still not working :/
[QUOTE=Niven;23851705]Ok.

Add -fullscreen to your launch options.
If that doesn't work, add -w <Your display's native width> -h <Your display's native height>. For example, -w 1280 -h 1024.
If even THAT doesn't work,
[QUOTE=E-102 Gamma;23766282]Open Registry Editor (Start - Run... - Type in "regedit" - Click OK).
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source.
You should see abbreviations for each of your Source games. Under each one is another key called "Settings". If you click on one of these Settings keys, you'll see what appear to be console commands. These are the game's various settings.
Find ScreenWidth and ScreenHeight and set them to your monitor's native width and height, respectively.
Launch the game and see if it worked.[/QUOTE]
I'll give it a try

Tried -fullscreen and -w 1280 -h 1024 didn't work. Gonna try the other one.

[editline]06:02PM[/editline]
I tried episodic and hl2, set my height to 800 and width to 1280, still didn't work.

[QUOTE=Wormy;23878279]Try to type cl_smooth 0 or cl_smooth 1 in the console. When i look at your video it looks like your graphics card is very bad, becuase it is fullbright, no lightnings.

To fix your Episode 1 problem try to type -dxlevel 81 into the launch parameters when clicking on the Episode 1 properties in Steam.[/QUOTE]
Alright I'll do the Portal problem right now.
But I tried -dxlevel 81, still doesn't work.

Did you click "Decimal" before you tried to set it? I'm sorry I didn't mention this earlier. It must be set to Decimal instead of Hexadecimal or else you'll end up setting it to something you really didn't intend to.

When the little Edit DWORD Value window comes up, there are two different bases you can use: Hexadecimal (default) and Decimal. Click the little button thingie by "Decimal" and then type in your value.
I tried that, still didn't work.
lagg comes with conection problems.Portal is offline.
[QUOTE=Niven;23894987]I tried that, still didn't work.[/QUOTE]
Well, I'm stumped then. Sorry I couldn't help. :frown:
[editline]11:14[/editline]
I tried my Episode 1. It is working.
:c
I think I understand what's going on here. When making videos, do you use the Source Demo Recorder commands? Because if you are, the ones in Portal are extremely buggy, you're better off recording with Fraps. I have the exact same problem with the Source Recorder, nothing is wrong with your game, trust me.
Alrighty then.
