I'm sorry, but very successful companies like IW charging $60 for CoD and topping the sales charts is only going to make other companies do the same thing. I mean, money hungry companies like Ubisoft and EA charging $60 for AC2 or MoH respectively are to be expected, but I'm afraid other companies may follow suit. I just don't see the reasons for inflated PC games prices besides general greed, especially when programs like steam cut out most of the middle man. These stingy companies like Ubisoft cry and moan about piracy killing their PC gaming sales and then go and charge $60 for them, as if their massive DRM didn't make the deal worse enough. It is just completely moronic. Hopefully this $60 price tag fad will go away soon. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon.
It won't fade until the $60 console games fade, which is probably never.
the extra 10 bucks on console games was to deal with licensing on the box art, since PC isn't owned by anyone it shouldn't be 60 bucks.
Prices are essentially never going to go down, unless a majority of consumers simply stop buying. Unfortunately, there's no way to convince people to not buy Call of Duty so that isn't likely.
IW Isn't charging anyone, Activishit gets all the money :frog:

It's going to be 60$ until the console games drop their price. But that's not going to happen, so until then the best thing we can do is complain about how it should be the other way around.
I want to get transformers WFC for 360. But 50$?! It came out last month!

Honestly when was the last time you bought a new pc game? Considering the frequency of the awesome Steam sales, I generally wait a few months before I buy anything. Last thing I bought (which was a mistake) was BC2 at release. Before that? The orange box on release. everything in between was bought during sales, it saves an extraordinary amount of money and on great games.
The only games I bought on release where Far Cry 2 (opps) and ArmA 2. But the latter was at a special deal.
The only games I bought on release where Far Cry 2 (opps) and ArmA 2. But the latter was at a special deal.
Bought Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 at release. Seeing it on sale was a little disheartening. So I waited for Orangebox, and got it for 10 dollars. Good things come to those who wait.
I don't know about you Americans, but $60 US would be $70 Canadian if I go by the price tags on the newest console games - even then after one month retailers usually siphon off $10. When I saw Bad Company 2 for PC at my local Future Shop, it was $60 CDN/$50 US and still is now.

Everything on Steam goes on sale at some point besides MW2. With weekend sales and Midweek Madness, there is no reason not to wait on a sale if it's on Steam. There is also weekly sales on Impulse and D2D. GamersGate seems to constantly have stuff discounted as well.
I rely on Steam and SlickDeals for my video game purchases.

I miss it when games where 40-50 dollars new. Good times, good times.
War for Cybertron was like the only mainstream game that I saw start at $40 in a looooong time.
I miss it when games where 40-50 dollars new. Good times, good times.
Dude, i freakin remember going into blockbuster a buying a brand new PS2 game for $20. THOSE were the days.
I don't mind paying 60 bucks if the game is PC exclusive, like Starcraft II.
its because people assume the higher the price the better it is.
Don't worry, the 60 dollar price tag will be done with soon enough, opening the door to 70 dollar games.
Isn't this supposed to be due to inflation? Games have been about 50$ for as long as I can remember, but 50$ ten years ago isn't 50$ now...
Developers and publishers give "suggested retail prices" they are not requirements. With that said almost all of them suggest $60. With that said it's up to the whoever is putting the product in the customers hand. Also, since this is mostly about PC games and people can debate ^ I will tell you why people charge $60 for digital downloads. > Steam has the privilege to distribute games not the right and because of this developers basically tell Steam, D2D, etc... "$60 a game or GTFO." IMO: PC games should cost more then console ones in most cases. With developers pushing out more content, tools, and going through the process to port the game they should be rewarded; sadly it'll never change.
But Steam slips something in their contracts allowing them to make flat-out outrageous sales whether they like it or not.
Hell it's already here.
Your right about that! I just spent 40 English pounds on Star craft 2 "STANDARD EDITION" :| I could have bought Just cause 2 AND Mass Effect 2 on steam for CHEAPER than that. :| Horrendous! </rant>

You're all still paying less than New Zealand and Australia have to.
