Has the original hl2 been updated to the Episode 2 engine? I've been living in a cave for a while. I see new achievements for it and there's an option in the Source SDK to use the 2009 Source engine with the vanilla hl2. So has it gotten updated?
Yes.
It was updated in May I believe when it was ported to the Mac.
Cool, now I can bigger maps without requiring people to have episode 2.
Indeed. Also, basically every existing HL2 mod is now broken to hell. :smith:
Isnt that what the 2006 and 2007 SDKs are for?
A fair share of HL2 mods were developed before there was an SDK to speak of and their creators have long since disappeared off the face of the earth or are uninterested in updating their DLLs (e.g. Substance, SMOD 1 branch). In the same vein, some like MINERVA directly mounted EP1 to make use of its models/textures since AdditionalContentId wasn't implemented until the Orange Box, so some of those are fritzy as well. Then there's a handful of oldish Orange Box mods that don't work regardless of what their base is, for some reason. But most of the crap is because of authors not using the SDKs, yeah. 'Course, there's a big old thread over on Phillip containing workarounds, so dicks everywhere.
Yep. HL2 was brought to the 2009 Source engine I believe. Dynamic shadows and such. :3: Also, gold.
