Whether you've heard of famous paintballer Greg Hastings or not, he has some interesting things to say about how Activision handled his videogame paintball sim. With Majesco's Greg Hastings Paintball 2 set to revolutionize the world of paintball games (no, really, according to Hastings), why isn't the series still being handled by Activision? Hastings alleges it's because he had to "fire" the publisher. Talking to Games Radar, Hastings said: "I had to fire Activision for doing such a poor job." However, this was more than just a case of neglect or shoddy management. Hastings continued: "Activision tried to steal my franchise. Within 24 hours of me shipping my PlayStation 2 game, Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball Max'd, they sent me a letter and they said, 'We feel you've abandoned your franchise, and we're going to commence making games called Greg Hastings Paintball without Greg Hastings.'" There was apparently then a court battle which Hastings won, allowing him to create Greg Hastings Paintball 2 with Majesco. "They made us spend a whole pile of money and we won unanimously in court," he says. "A billion-dollar company tried to steal my identity, and I was able to fight and regain my identity. That's why I'm on cloud nine; I fought the giant and I'm a success story against Activision." This has not been Activision's month. Since the beginning of July, the company has gotten more than its share of bad press, including Tim Schafer hating on Bobby Kotick, Infinity Ward alleging it ran a "police state", and anonymous sources accusing it of sexism. This is one situation where the facts don't appear to lie: Hastings went up against Activision and won unanimously in court. If the higher-ups at Activision are engaging in immoral business practices, I don't approve, but even I'm starting to feel bad as their reputation seems to be tarnishing.
Holy...
Sounds like a bad decision made by a bunch of stupid jerks. That said, I'm sure people are going to swoop in with a dozen pictures of Bobby Kotick and blame him personally for this.
Bah, I've heard so much shit about them nothing phases me now.
Fucking assholes
I hope Activision dies by the end of the year. Really I do.
Dang, I was so excited for the paintball game revolution.
jesus christ Activision, you used to be like every other game company, now you turned into shit I hope it dies too,and with it all the shit it created or helped created
They're not going to die in the slightest. Activision is one half of the beast that is Blizzard-Activision, and that Blizzard half is going to hold it up for a good while yet; not to mention the ungodly amounts of money it's made with its previous efforts.
that's what makes me cringe honestly,if Activishit wasn't part of Blizzard,i'm sure it would be dead today, with all the shit it did
How the fuck did they think they'd get away with that?
that's what makes me cringe honestly,if Activishit wasn't part of Blizzard,i'm sure it would be dead today, with all the shit it did
No it would probably still be alive even without blizzard, whichever publisher has the blind sheep mentality of the public in their way is pretty much set forever and thanks to call of duty the blind sheeps give their money to activision.
goddamn activision lol
The stockholders are gonna get pissed at kotick and he's eventually gonna lose his job
I remember one paintball game where if you got hit even once anywhere on your body you would 'die', it was basically instagib without the blood. Was actually a very good fun FPS shooter that was PG rated so our school was fine with us playing it. You had all the guns and everything, only difference was the bullet decals were paint splats instead of bullet holes.

Thats not like paintball (sarcasm) [editline]01:35PM[/editline] The Greg Hasting series are not that good anyway. Beats me why Activision wanted it.
jesus christ Activision, you used to be like every other game company, now you turned into shit
Actually, Activision have always been a bit too big for their boots. Even before the Kotick era they practised business in a less than dignified way, like when they purchased Infocom (who created the awesome Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy game) in the mid-eighties and subsequently shut them after just a couple of years due to their awful decision to substitute the company's original business model for their own, which lead to half-arsed games and terrible sales. I wouldn't put it past them to do anything these days.
sarcasm?
Yes sarcasm.
Activision used to be good.
Seriously? Even more shit?, Looks like they still have a lot of shit to do before they die...
Activision used to be good.
Activision used to be okay. Good is an overstatement.
"I had to fire Activision for doing such a poor job." I love you Greg.

Technically, it was possible to cheat and whip paint off if you were quick enough (using a small mini game thing), but that was sometimes difficult and getting caught results in teammates going out.

Eh i for one be delighted for Acti died...they have too many rights to awesome series and yet they fuck it in the butthole.
How the fuck did they think they'd get away with that?
"We're Activision, people. We made Modern Warfare 2. Doesn't that count for anything anymore?" "Hmm. No." *Insert Realistic Gattle Slam*
activision hasn't put out a good game since Mechwarrior.
I hate the fact for our next generation that Acti holds the rights to Spyro and Crash. Come on...
