I'm looking for some good games to get for deployment (preferably on steam or download.)
Basically they need to be able to be played single player, mainly looking for time killers or even games with good stories and alot of replay value.
I'll be leaving for Afghanistan tomorrow and i should have internet access but it will either be very limited or really slow while i'm over there, I've got internet right now for the time being.
(I bought gratuitous space battles because it seemed interesting but it turned out the game basically plays it's self so i want to avoid buying games that are not what i thought they were.)
Most of Valve's games (L4D, Half Life, Portal). Also if you like the RTS genre you could get that new Starcraft.
I've got all the source engine games already and have played through them all, starcraft isn't a bad idea though.
And just fyi, don't worry about specs, I've got a pretty decent desktop replacement laptop (asus g73jh-a1) so unless it's a really system taxing i should be able to play it on at the very least medium settings.
glad to see that our boys overseas are gonna be defending our country by playing starcraft.
Well it does teach them to be commanders

I beg to differ - It's a damn video game. And on top of that, futuristic warfare is not the same as modern warfare.

Wouldn't it be more fun to party at the local bars or wherever you are being deployed to?

Mass Effect
Mount & Blade
Dragon Age
btw DA:O and ME2 are each 15$ at gamersgate right now
I've never played the original mass effect, should i wait to play ME:2 and play ME:1 first?
I tried Dragon age and it got boring pretty fast but, i didn't give it much of a chance. Does it pick up after the castle stuff?
Specs of your laptop (I'm presuming)
Specs of your laptop (I'm presuming)
I7 720qm 1.6ghz (2.8ghz turbo)
500gb 7,200rpm x2
ATI 5870 1gb gddr5
8gb ddr3 1333mhz
Fallout series, some mods for HL2, Battlefield 2 (with AIX mod for more bots)
Metro 2033
Medieval II Total War Kingdoms with the Stainless Steel mod.
Well it does teach them to be commanders
It teaches them that as a senior commander, subordinate commanders do not exist and you have to give orders to every single soldier on the battlefield constantly, which are nothing more than programmed drones.
Warcraft & Diablo series, Supreme Commander 2 is sorta fun even when playing skirmish matches with bots(it's an RTS), Trine if you like platformers, Minecraft can keep you busy for one hell of a time, same with Dwarf Fortress if you get into it (DF is FREE too.), S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Fallout, Elder Scrolls series, and uhm, that is about it that i can think off at the moment.

If you got bored with DA:O you'll probably get bored with original ME. It's much slower than its sequel.

HNNNNNNNNNNRGGGGGGGGGGGG
I've never had ME2. Guess what I'm buying :v:
Fallout3 or Oblivion. Both modded will probably provide you with hundreds of hours of entertainment.

They'll be prepared for taliban rushes!
Emulators. Play all your favorite Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games. One thing's for sure. They are ALL singleplayer.
