WAIT STOP, I'm kidding.
I'm running Win7 x64 and Sc1 runs in neon colors, some of you may have experienced this, if you have a solution, do tell.
I've tried: Compatibility mode/troubleshoot already (Tell me settings if they work)and keeping the resolution window open.

I swear when I was coming into this thread I was ready to let loose.
Try using Virtual Windows XP if you've got that much power.
why are you playing sc1 on an actual gaming computer
it's like trying to run an nes emulator on an alienware, it's completely backwards performance-wise, the old shit runs it great but newer hardware is garbage for it.
i might be wrong but i'd try it on an older computer, this is really how it seems to work for me.

Works just about every time.

I've already tried googling. I can't find anything that will work.
I run Starcraft 1 without a hitch and I'm on 7, 64bit. Not sure what the problem could be.
Found this with Google:
Step 1: Open Notepad
Step 2: Paste this in Notepad: taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
E:\"StarCraft"\"StarCraft.exe"
start explorer.exe
Step 3: Save as sc.bat, and make sure file type is set to all files not as .txt
Step 4: Run SC.bat, and voila!
Also retry the compatibility and resolution window fixes, leave the window open.
Compatibility Settings:
X "Run in 256 colors"
X "Run in 640x 480 screen resolution"
X "Disable visual themes
Privilege Level:
X "Run this program as an administrator"

So, do I do both or just one.. because the 2nd one isn't working/
Trying them separately first would probably work best.

The bat file kills explorer.exe. So after I quit will it start up again, or will I have to do it manually every time?

Don't do that first thing
[editline]07:24AM[/editline]
A more simple thing to do the same exact thing and that it will reset when you close StarCraft is to disable visual themes.

Whut.
"Alternative, create a batch file (file name with .bat extension) with the following commands to automatically perform the above actions, and run the game.
taskkill /F /IM Explorer.exe
%ProgramFiles%\StarCraft\StarCraft.exe
start explorer.exe
exit
Note: Replace the second line (call to run the game) to the exact path that pointing the the game executable. An easy way is to right click on the game icon, and copy the text inside the “Target” box to replace the string above. Or just place the batch file inside the game directory.
Tip 1: Script above restart Explorer immediately after launching the game. If the game is still having color issue, try to delay the restarting of the Explorer by adding a “pause” command before starting Explorer, or use “start /w” switch to run the game, which cause the next command to execute after the game is exited. E.g:
start /w "%ProgramFiles%\StarCraft\StarCraft.exe"
Tip 2: Change the game shortcut to point to the batch file to play the game."
Woah, confusing, I've never written anything before. This will be interesting. Meanwhile I must go sleep.
You're not writing anything. You're making a .txt document and pasting that, changing .txt to .bat and messing with the launch options
You can not run it....You need a pylon near your computer
I think a Pylon key-chain should be sold.
Right Click Desktop
Personalize
Display Settings
Colors > 16 bit
Works.
Just open up the 'personalize' screen, leave it open, and start up stopcraft. You will have neon colours on the start screen, but ingame is fine.
Oh, and turn off all compatibility things in the shortcut properties.
This solution works for me on Win7 x86
And my mate says simply alt tabbing in & outonce gameplay has started fixes it..

merger.
Alt+tanning worked for me in SC and Diablo.
