• Alan Wake - One of the Best Games I Ever Played

So, yeah, as the title says. It's one of the best games I have ever played. Being a die hard Max Payne fan, I found Alan Wake to be thrilling, scary and exciting at the same time and all of my friends are too busy with getting degrees/work/families so I can't share my excitement with them. What a bunch of losers, am I right? :D Cheers.
Yes ALAN WAKE WAS GREAT!
I wasn't a big fan of it. The main character was kind of obnoxious and most of what I played was just wandering through some foggy woods fighting shadows with the irritating torch mechanics.

However, I really liked Sam Lake's writing in Max Payne and it clearly shows his writing in Alan Wake. In my opinion, Remedy excels in presenting a different point of view in it's game (as few as there are). The fighting sequences might not be as entertaining as they were in Max Payne but the general atmosphere gave me that feeling I used to have as a kid playing a new exciting game.
I really like the story and the atmosphere
I always found it hilarious how there's all this product placement for energizer batteries, yet they only last about eight seconds when used.
Alan Wake is one of my personal favourite games. and American Nightmare while short still managed to entertain me. Mainly because of Mister scratches personality.

Thought it was amazing, really fun and good atmosphere, and when it wasn't telling you where the enemies were before they pop out, I did have a good few scares.

I loved the entire thing! Except i went through the entire game on Nightmare and finding every collectible except for ONE thermos.

I bought both for like 10-15 bucks a few months ago and played them. They were fantastic for that price. The combat was definitely improved in American Nightmare.
i loved it. mostly for the atmosphere. the combat was satisfying but pretty shallow. what kept me going was the story and all the other little television things and shit like that.

The problem I had with Alan Wake was that it didn't know what it was going to be. At first it was going to be open world, then they made it more linear, then they tried to balance the horror/Stephen King aspect with the combat aspect. It worked out pretty good, but it could have been better. American Nightmare did what it wanted to do tons better, as it focused on the combat. American Nightmare was more fun to play, but I liked Alan Wake's atmosphere/references way more. It might be worth mentioning that Remedy are preparing a "big announcement" for the Alan Wake series.
i hope its alan wake 2 i would jeez day and night and hopefully if it IS alan wake 2 then it better be open world i can only imagine myself getting ready becouse the dusk would be coming and then shadows coming everywhere...
i do agree, the freeroaming sounded fucking AWESOME basically they said that there was a freeroaming world and there would be a day/night mechanic and stuff. [editline]7th January 2013[/editline] oh yeah and iirc the map was going to be fuckin huge
They cut the open world because it was boring and there was nothing to do, right? I'd rather play the story we have now instead of playing another Mafia II, although the idea is interesting. An open world game from Remedy would be rad.
no they cut it because it would be this story except the night/day mechanic while at first would be cool would become insanely annoying. it would be like blowouts in stalker only instead of a blowout a bunch of mutants appear and they're pretty easy to fight. oh yeah and it happens every time the sun goes down.

I loved this game. But I think the open world wouldn't have worked. With a game so focused on story it needed to be very tightly paced. And I think they couldn't have gotten the story to have the same kind of momentum or impact if between every mission you went off and fucked around for a bit.
Open world would ruin the game, imo. You get enough wandering about as it is. I don't really care if Remedy's next biggest announcement is Alan Wake 2 or not, whatever they make - they will deliver a fine product, I believe. ;)

Take the storytelling and atmosphere of the first one and make babies with the better combat and enemy variety of American Nightmare please.
Barry made the game for me
I was hooked from start to finish.
