Evening people,
I've finally completed Red Alert 3 on hard, and i'm now bored.
I'm annoyingly addicted to them at the moment, and i've completed all the ones i own: Company of Heroes, Red Alert 3 & Stronghold 2.
Are there many more out there that are really really fun & strategic, and if so what would you recommend?
I prefer games with longer campaigns, it's a bit shit when the game is really good but it's pathetically short lived.
Ta.
Total War series.
Age of empires, Stronghold 1 (I heard the second sucked.)
Warcraft (The third is my favorite, but they are all decent.)
Starcraft 2
Total War series.
This too.
Men of War also.
Men of War? I never played it, but it's supposedly really fun.

Ninja'd.

Stronghold 1 was 2d and not fun in my opinion - stronghold 2 has it's flaws but i find it amazingly fun.
What theme is Warcraft? :)
Total War series.
I have Rome:Total War... It's not good.
I can select all my units, click on attack on the objective, go make a cuppa and when i'm back i've won. :/
What's the theme of Men of War also?
Cheers for the feedback. :D
sc2
Men of War is set in WW2, much better than CoH.

I also suggest you give Total War another go. I recently bought Empire: Total War and it's great, much more difficult than Rome: Total War.

Don't know what you've been playing, but Total War requires you to use use rudimentary battlefield tactics and factors like taking advantage of the terrain, proper positioning of artillery, morale and flanking. Maybe you were playing Rome Total War with overpowered units, without patches or didn't bother to check out the amazing mods?

Rise of Nations is fun, especialy in Multiplayer!
Settlers IV
A pretty damn old game, but i never get bored with this.
Has 3 races: Vikings, Mayans and Romans. Each have 3 missions, and then there's a long Dark Tribe campaign where you fight refugees from Hell.
Multiplayer doesn't work with me tho. And i have the legal version.
But still, it's a very nice little game.

Nope, got it on steam fully updated, didn't check out the mods mind, but i did play on the campaign with this tactic :P
That Rise of Nations looks pretty good as does men of war, i'll read into them :)
I'll look into Settlers IV as well, suonds like it could be good. :)

Mmm. Get your hands on Medieval II and the Kingdoms expansion if you can, but stay away from Empire.
Men of War is set in WW2, much better than CoH.
Uhhh, they're two very different games, bro. One is for people who are into micromanagement hell, and the other is a bit faster-paced. I've played both and prefer CoH for its accessibility. It's also not nearly as buggy as MoW. Both good games, though.

And Warcraft is a medieval fantasy game. Old, but the custom games make it.
Starcraft 2 is probably better though, I'd get it over Warcraft 3.

I actually did have Medieval 2, I really enjoyed that, no idea where it's gone though. - Howcome i should stay away from empire?

Ah right ok, Which Warcraft would you recommend getting? I presume the latest one.
Starcraft 2 look's pretty good also.
World In Conflict

Supreme Commander

OP Unless you are looking for a game that involves shittons of micromanagement don't get Starcraft or Warcraft, honestly

Pretty sure you should turn up the difficulty.
Men of War.
World In Conflict, Act of War, C&C Generals, Dawn of War series, Supreme Commander.

For the skirmishes. they require a lot of micro, but honestly, I NEVER played the skirmishes. They have so many options of custom games that really are like full games in itself.
Mmm. Get your hands on Medieval II and the Kingdoms expansion if you can, but stay away from Empire.
Why do people hate on Empire? Medieval II was fun, but was just updated graphics and different units than Rome and didn't have the unique gameplay of Empire. If you didn't have fun playing as the Maratha Confederacy in online Empire matches, you're not a Total War fan.

Compared to the older games it's pretty shallow. You can compare the unit lists of say France and Prussia and they'll be very similar with the exception of a few side-specific units. There are some mods to fix that (but I'm not sure if the unit mods just add new units with changed skins or entirely new models) but unless you have more than a passing interest in 18th century warfare, politics and history then don't get Empire.

If by "micromanagement" you mean having to actually build things and collect resources, then yes, there is a lot of it. Otherwise, SC and WC are amazing RTS's with great gameplay and replayability, and they're very balanced. There's very little micromanagement compared to some deeper RTS's.

With all the mods flying around it's impossible to get a match with your ideal mix of Empire.
What do you mean micromanagement?
Basically, Micromanagement is when you have to control and pay attention to every single move. Usually found in really fast-paced games. To be honest, it's a lot less fun and less realistic than more slower paced games.

ah alright, thanks

He probably meant micromanagement, as in having to pay attention to detailed gameplay aspects such as instead of a squad of riflemen using its own judgement to toss grenades for example, you the commander have to order that specific squad to throw a grenade at a specified exact location.

Ah right, well i enjoy things like that. And you can bypass it for example in Red alert 3 by setting units to aggressive mode so they attack everything, or you can do it yourself with them on hold ground mode.

These are like, my favourite RTSes.
Another extremely good (and *drumroll* free!) RTS games are:
Warzone 2100:

Warzone has an extremely long campaign and it contains absolutely shittons of research to do. It's great fun, and quite difficult. Artillery plays a very important role in the game, as its range and firepower is considerable. Likely the best free RTS.
Ground Control:

I'm not saying it's bad, it's just that in Warcraft and Starcraft there's a tad too much of it.
