I've recently bought the Quake Pack off of Steam, and I've finally been able to get it up and running fine and dandy. They added Wide-screen (Custom resolution) support for Quake 3, but I'm having a little dilemma.
I put it into my native resolution of 2560x1440, and it'll work at that resolution. The problem I have is that the image seems to be more zoomed in than a 4:3 image. My gun's seem smaller and more in my face than normal.
I've tried changing my fov (it's set at 90 at the moment) to higher and lower, but whatever I do to it, the gun remains uptight in my face. I've switched back to a 4:3 resolution, and the gun is noticeably more ...away from my face. For example, I am able to see the back part of the railgun (the part that glows).
Anyone have any solutions to this?

Try a lower resolution or windowed to see if it's just the game?

I've tried lower widescreen resolutions, but the guns are still zoomed.
Try to change your Viewmodel FOV

I don't know how in Q3 though.
Like Agoat said, try windowed mode, that helps sometimes.
Need a picture so I can see what you mean.
As someone said, you might have to change your FOV (field of vision) to accommodate for the resolution change.
I'm pretty sure a widescreen resolution crops the image so that's what makes it look zoomed in.
Looks like the FOV setting controls the horizontal FOV then, the vertical depends on the aspect ratio of the screen. Increase the FOV, and you'll be able to see the gun like you used to, and you'll also see more to your sides.
edit: Give me books, i missed the part when he says the gun stays the same.
Jesus christ, that resolution is massive.
One option is
cg_drawgun 0
Which will make the gun invisible.
...Or you can tweak the guns position by using
cg_gunx <value>
cg_guny <value>
cg_gunz <value>
I personally find RG and LG easier with cg_drawgun 0, and I recommend a FOV of 115 and a zoom fov of 50. Those are fairly standard numbers for Quake 3.

I will try this and post results. I will also try to get some screen shots to show you guys.
I have tried changing my FOV (mentioned in OP) and it just sorta...skews the gun. I will mess around with some of these console commands and see what happens.
Here are some screen shots. Excuse the small size and the extra window on the right side of the Wide screen picture, for some reason Quake 3 does not like "Print Screen", so I had to use an external program to capture the images.
Non-wide screen
(1600x1200)

Widescreen
(1920x1080)

You can see the gun on the bottom of the screen shows less on the wide screen version. It's also stretched a little. In fact, the more I look at this, Wide screen just looks like it's a zoomed in 4:3 that's been stretched.
What's the highest 4:3 resolution a 27 inch monitor can take? If I'm going to play it box form, I want to at least max it out.

That's exactly what I did. You can even tell the screen shots are almost identical to mine.
