• How to make Highest FPS/Quality Videos with all valve games/Mods(Source Only)

Alright so i have seen a lot of valve game videos and a lot use Fraps or gamecam and it really hinders the quality unless you do have a pretty good computer. This way i am going to tell you lets someone with a shitty computer make an incredibly good looking video with highest settings and high Fps. Steps on making a great video. The Steps are incredibly simple, more time consuming than fraps but a much better outcome. First make sure you have a lot of hard drive space, i would say 20gb or higher just to be safe. Make sure you have a program such as Virtual Dub http://www.virtualdub.org/ or any other program that allows you to put together a TGA sequence. Sony vegas and After Effects lets you do this as well. Now start recording demos by using the console command "record <name>" and "stop" when you wanna stop recording. Read Below for a crisp High FPS video, this doesnt effect top end computers. Best Fps for the video. Alright, say you have some shitty computer from 2004(like i do) but you want a high FPS with a High quality also right? Well you can and heres how. 1.Set your game to the lowest possible settings it allows, the higher the fps you get in these low settings the better, you want at the very LEAST 30+ at all times, anything below 30 can cause small weird stutter issues using this technique. The reason being, if your fps falls below the host_framerate setting you set, it will look like those parts are lagging. 2.Record your Demos in these settings. 3. After that is all done put your settings to the highest possible, even if you get 1 fps at these settings its alright. 4.Load up your demo. 5. sv_cheats 1 6. Then do host_framerate 30 (this can vary i recommend not going higher than 60 unless you plan on doing frame bending) 6.5. Also do hud_draw 0 to show no chat/hud. 7. Now while your demo is paused(bind pause and unpause commands to keys, i forget what they are but) type start <name> 8. Now the demo will become very laggy and most likely not move, what it is doing infact is making a TGA sequence at the Fps you host_framerate is set at, THIS WILL TAKE A LONG TIME AND USE A GOOD AMOUNT OF HARDDRIVE SPACE. It makes the sequence in your game folder(tf/l4d/hl2) It also makes the .wav file. 9. Now you have a very high quality TGA sequence with a very smooth FPS, so now put it together using virtual dub or whatever program you choose. Im not gonna get into what codec to use for video compiling because i dont know what the bests ones are, but i use ffdshow and use mpeg-3 with those codecs and it looks great to me. Now you can make a video that looks just as good as this. or this, THIS one also shows that stutter effect that happens when the fps you recorded in is not above or the same as the fps set with host_framerate. Hope to see more people using this for better quality videos. Additional Information. Now this works in every Goldsrc and source game/mod, the issue with goldsrc is that theres bugs with it, such as sometimes the console doesnt go away and you cant remove the hud. For that sexy motion blur you see in both those videos you need Adobe After Effects which is very expensive and you can only buy it, there is no other way to get it without buying it. And you need this plugin http://www.revisionfx.com/products/rsmb/ Which you can only buy to get, there is no other way.
I thought we already had a Source Recorder tutorial?
